HAINES CITY, FL -- Richard Ross Morrisey, age 85 of Haines City Florida, formally from Lima, Ohio found peace through Christ when he passed away Wednesday March 22nd, 2023.
He was born on April 7th, 1937 to Joseph and Harriet Morrisey who preceded him in death. On October 13th, 1956 he married Carolyn (Swaney) Morrisey who survives.
He was also preceded in death by his sister Robin (Morrisey) Ramirez, Sister-in-law, Shirley (Swaney) Stewart & Brother-in-law, Frank Stewart.
Richard is also survived by three children: Ross (Anita) Morrisey of Las Vegas, NV, Ryan (Sara) Morrisey of Lima, OH and Darren (Kathy) Morrisey of Spencerville, OH; four grandchildren: Dylan (Becca) Morrisey, Alexander Morrisey, Katherine Morrisey & Julianna Morrisey; two great-grandchildren: Presley Morrisey & William Morrisey; three nieces and a nephew.
Richard graduated from Shawnee High School in 1955 and worked for Ex-Cello Corp, Ford Motor Co, K&E Design and Elevators Mutual Insurance Co. He owned and operated Morrisey Saw & Tool and later managed several senior citizen apartment complexes for National Church Residences.
In 1965 he earned his private pilot license and became a longtime member of the EAA. He enjoyed taking day-flights with Carolyn and visiting air shows with family and friends. His passion for flying culminated 2006 when he was granted the certification to fly the Helecycle that he custom built in his shop.
Richard was obsessed with figuring out how things worked and especially loved programming computers. Over the years he built radios, transmitters, metal detectors and small computers, long before PCs were available to the general public. He continued building things into his final days.
In 1975 Richard helped organize the Shawnee Youth Soccer Association and loved coaching his son's teams. Watching his grandchildren participate in youth sports gave him tremendous joy. Richard cherished is high school friends and classmates and actively kept everyone connected through the Class of 1955 webpage, lunches and reunions.
He also loved serving his community and took great pride in being part of the Shawnee Township Zoning Commission, being a Township Zoning Inspector, and an active member of Shawnee Alliance Church.
While in Florida he participated in the Lake Region Village Social Club, Boat Club and Carvers Club. Whenever visitors would come, he enjoyed including them in the various club activities. Many special memories are shared by his grandchildren learning how to carve, fish, play Bingo, and explore around on the golf cart.
Richard's genuine smile will be missed by his family, friends and neighbors.
A celebration of life service will be held at Shawnee Alliance Church at 11:00 AM, May 20th, 2023 officiated by Reverend Daniel Messner.
