ROBERT WENDEL
LIMA — Robert Edward "Bob" Wendel, 75, died at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, January 07, 2015, at St. Rita's Medical Center, peacefully surrounded by family after many courageous health battles.
Robert was born on November 23, 1939, in Wheeling, West Virginia, to the late William Wendel and Frances (Glatz) Wendel.
On July 28, 1962, Robert married Patti Lemons, who survives in Lima, Ohio.
Robert graduated from Wheeling Central Catholic High School and attended Northwestern Business College. He served in the U.S. Army from May 4, 1959 to May 3, 1965 and was honorably discharged. He was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Partner at E.S. Evans and Company for more than 50 years.
Bob was a charter member of Kiwanis Club of Lima (35 years) and served as it's Treasurer for many years. He was a member of the YMCA and served on their Board, the YMCA Indian Guides, the Boy Scouts of America, and many other local charities and organizations. He was a supporter of Lima Central Catholic High School and had served on it's Athletic Board. He was a member of the Ohio Society of CPA's, the Lima Chapter of Ohio Society of CPA's, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Association of Governmental Accounts, and the ACUTE (he was a member in the early days, it was an accountant computer organization). He was on the Parish Finance Committee at St. Charles Catholic Church and was an Auditor of State's Dayton Regional Advisory Board.
He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians. He loved to fish and passed that passion on to his sons and grandchildren. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He could often be caught watching the birds out back when he wasn't with his grandchildren. He loved working with organizations (such as Kiwanis, YMCA, & Boy Scouts) that were directly involved with helping children.
Bob is survived by; two sons, Michael (Mary) Wendel, of Columbus, OH, and Andy (Angel) Wendel, of Harrod, OH.; one daughter, Elizabeth "Bethe" Klein, of Columbus, OH,; six grandchildren, Alec, Dakota, Oscar, Molly; Hayley and Alivia; one great grandchild, Lilly; two sisters, Norma Stark and Marian Wendel; a brother Bill Wendel.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 9, 2015, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Lima, OH. Father Stephen Blum will officiate.
Entombment will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
