LIMA — Ruth Metzger, 97, passed away at 4:52 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, 2021, at Otterbein Nursing Home, Cridersville Ohio.
Ruth was born on December 3, 1923, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Earl H. Archer and Ferol (Crow) Archer. On January 15, 1944, she married Floyd O. Metzger, who proceeded her in death.
She was a member of Lima Trinity United Methodist Church. She worked at Bath High School in food service and was head of food service at the high school. She also worked as a volunteer for American Red Cross.
She is survived by her son, Jed (Vicki Hoover) Metzger, of Lima, OH; son-in-law, Ben ( Patty) Diepenbrock, of Lima, OH; five grandchildren: Dr. Ryan (Tina) Diepenbrock, of Ft Wayne, IN, Greg Diepenbrock, of Columbus, OH, Emily Diepenbrock, of Hollywood, CA, Marla (Cory) Saffle of Columbus, OH, and Jared Metzger of Columbus, OH; four great grandchildren: Rylan, Vance, Bennett and Ava Diepenbrock; sister, Carol Bowsher, of Lima, OH; sister-in-laws, Della Archer, Opal Metzger, Ruth Sandy.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sue Diepenbrock; infant son, Jeff Metzger; sisters: Vera Rutledge, Alice Conrad, Martha (Allan) Shappell and Joyce Ketchen; brothers, Roger Archer and Verdon (Connie) Archer; brother-in-laws & sister-in-laws, David Conrad, Ron Ketchen, Ralph Rutledge, Ken Bowsher, Ed Sandy, Everett Metzger, Glen & Mary Lou Metzger, Foster & Eva Metzger.
The family will receive friends from 2 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, February, 26, 2021 at the funeral home. Rev. Megan Croy will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
