GOMER -- Ruth Arlene (Metzger) Sandy, 97, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior at 1:26 a.m. on February 21, 2026 at The Springs of Lima.
She was born August 30, 1928, in Lima to Lester and Nellie (Flory) Metzger, who preceded her in death. On October 18, 1947, she married J. Edward Sandy, who preceded her in death on June 21, 2012.
Ruth was a 1946 graduate of Columbus Grove High School, Columbus Grove. She worked at Neon's and Commercial Credit of Lima before becoming a homemaker. In her retirement years, she was employed at Meijer.
She was a member of Lima Baptist Temple and loved the Lord with all her heart. Ruth was an avid gardener, and her large gardens provided an abundance of food for their family. She taught her children how to economically feed a family by canning and freezing much of the produce. Nothing was ever wasted. She also enjoyed reading through recipe books, canning, and baking delicious meals for her family. Many of her recipes will be cherished for generations to come. She took pride in always having delicious homecooked meals every day, having a clean and organized house, and being very frugal with what the Lord had provided for her and her family. Her husband and children were blessed to be taken care of so well. She enjoyed supporting her husband, Ed, when he was a baseball player, coach, teacher, and administrator, and she never minded being in the background. Because of her support, those she loved and supported were and are highly successful. Her greatest joy was her family. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. A special thank you to The Springs of Lima and Interim Hospice of Lima for assisting in the care of our dear mother.
