SPRINGFIELD -- Sherman L. Tyson, 70 of Springfield, formerly of Lima, went home to be with the Lord on March 15, 2025. Sherman was born July 31, 1954 in Harlan, KY, to Herbert Ross and Clemmie (Tyson) Cannon-Totty, who preceded him in death.
Sherman was a graduate of Lima Senior High School and he continued his education at Marion Technical College. He worked as a truck driver for 35 years, driving for GLM Transport in Van Wert, Keller Trucking in Defiance and Jason Minnick in Ada. Sherman loved riding motorcycles and he was a former charter member of the local Brothers of the Hammer Motorcycle Club. He was wonderful with his hands. When it came to carpentry or electrical work, his skills were unmatched! Sherman was an avid and talented boxer and he loved fishing and cooking. He loved music and dancing and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family. They held a special place in his heart and he will always hold a special place in theirs.
Left to cherish his memory is his fiancée, Beth Cherry; children, Yahbysuel (Daisha) Yzrael and Angela Tyson-Kilgore; the mother of his children, Delores Tyson; daughters, Stacy (Malcolm) Upshaw-Martin and Danielle (Robert) Upshaw; daughters, Whitney Cherry and TaMekia Rogers; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ralph (Rita) Hillman, Lloyd Batty and Elton (Annie) Batty; sisters, Gail Hill, Romaine (Leroy) Jackson, Karen (Robert) Downton, Iris Cousey, Deborah Batty and Janice (Mark) Savage; sister-in-law, Corlisa Tyson; special aunt, Lorene Tyson and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Sherman is preceded in death by his sons, Kevin Tyson and Sherman Tyson, Jr.; identical twin brother, Herman Tyson; brother, Mark Batty; son-in-law, Leonard Kilgore; mother of his children, Stacy and Danielle, Beverly Upshaw; his special aunt and uncles, Tommie Lee Rhodman, Herb Rhodman and Renny Tyson, Sr. and his loving companion, Spirit.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services - Shawnee Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
