Steven Hilyard Obituary

LIMA -- Steven Earl Hilyard, age 75, was called into the presence of the Lord at 3:23 p.m. on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Lima Memorial Health System with the love of his family by his side.

Steve was born November 27, 1948, in Lima, OH, to Frederick and Emily (Taylor) Hilyard who both preceded him in death.

Steve was a graduate of Bath High School and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War. He had worked in the tool department at Lowe's since its opening. He was especially known for his since of humor and he was well known and respected at Lowe's for his vast knowledge and dedication.

He is survived by two daughters, Holly (Felipe) Bendezu of Arlington, MA and Jennifer (Steve) Spence of Zionsville, IN; five grandchildren, Mica, Lola and Boe Bendezu, and Gavin and Aubrey Spence; his girlfriend Rhonda Beckett of Elida and her family; two brothers, Vân Hilyard of Lima, and Craig (Sherry) Hilyard of Lima; and sister, Carolyn McGregor of Phoenix, AZ.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Linda McCarty, and Teresa Hilyard; brother-in-law, Dennis McGregor; and nephew, Justin Hilyard.

Services celebrating Steve's life will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel. Chaplain Glory Geib will officiate the service. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and the VFW #1275.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

I have been a long time friend of Steve´s since he and Judy got married. My son grew up with his kids. I am certain Steve made it into heaven with no problems. He was good man. I want to give Holly and Jenny my deep condolences for their loss. Linda Taylor

Met Steve at Lowe's many years ago and always appreciated his expertise. Did not know about his military experience until Lowe's did a great service to our Veterans by providing camouflage vests! We talked for a while about this and every time I saw him, acknowledged his service. Yes, he was a great guy.
