THOMAS BROWN
LIMA — Dr. Thomas J. Brown Sr., 92, of Lima, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11:35PM at Lima Convalescent. Tom was born on February 2, 1925 in Toronto, Ohio to the late Merl J. and Emma {Pauls} Brown. On July 17, 1949 in West Jefferson, Ohio, Tom married Betty Jean McVitty. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2012.
Tom is survived by sons Thomas J.(Paula) Brown Jr. of Columbus, Ohio and Dr. David T. (Ann) Brown of Indianapolis, Indiana, daughters Linda (Dr. Joseph) Beaman of Dayton, Ohio and Patricia (Judge Jeffrey) Reed of Lima, Ohio, grandchildren Dr. Andrea (Dr. Aaron) Sargeant, Benjamin (Dr. Jessica) Beaman, Dr. Rachel (Timothy) Kacmar, Amelia (Justin) Schmeidel, Jacob Brown, Elizabeth (Michael) Burke, James Brown, Alison (William) Hedges, Diana (Eric) Rose, and Amy (Aaron) Baker, great-grandchildren Samantha, Alexandra, and Andrew Sargeant, Thomas and Logan Hedges, Victoria Burke, Jameson Rose, Thomas Joseph "TJ" Kacmar, and Bernie Beaman.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Dan L. Brown and John P. Brown.
Tom was a 1948 graduate of The Ohio State College of Dentistry and served as a Captain in the Dental Corps in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged and then established his dentistry practice in Lima in 1953. When he retired from his dental practice, he was a part-time dental hygiene faculty member at Rhodes State College. In 2014, he participated in an Honor Flight trip to Washington DC. Tom and Betty were charter members of the Cotillion Dance Club and were life members of the Lima Memorial Health Systems Auxiliary. Tom was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a trustee, and on various committees at the church. He was in the Masonic Lodge #585 and the NW Ohio Dental Society as well as several other service organizations. Tom was an avid golfer and bridge player, and enjoyed spending time with his loving family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 1PM at Lima Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. David Harris officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:30AM until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Lima Trinity United Methodist Church, 301 W. Market St. Lima, Ohio 45801.
