HENDERSON, NV -- Thomas R. (Tom) Shafer, 85, passed away on June 30, 2025 in Las Vegas, NV. Tom was born on Feb. 7, 1940 to Jacob R. and Marian (Tootie) Shafer in Lima, OH.
He was a 1958 graduate of Columbus Grove High School. Tom, along with his brother, Dick, had farmed in the Cairo/Columbus Grove area. He served as Monroe Twp. Trustee, and was part-owner of Shafer's Meat Market in Lima. Tom spent some time in Madison, FL and Ghana, Africa managing farms.
He later moved to Melbourne, FL where he met his wife, Susan Thal-Bartling. After they married, they moved to Henderson, NV, and he worked for Harrison Door Co. They then moved to San Mateo, CA, where Tom owned and operated Pacific Doors Sales and Service. After they retired, they moved back to Henderson.
Tom is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters-Lisa (Dan) Rolston of Louisville, KY, and Valerie (Rob) Ramirez of Bowling Green, KY; son-Tod (Liz) Shafer of Louisville, KY; his former wife, Judy Rayle, mother of his children; and step-son, Shannon Bartling of AZ. Grandchildren-Ashley (Dominic) Gratto; Eric (Rachel) Rolston; Kayla (Kenny) Heitzman; Tommy (Paige) Shafer; Ben Ramirez; and Nate Ramirez; and 16 great-grandchildren; Brothers- Kraig Shafer of Elida; Steve (Sue) Shafer of Columbus Grove; and sister- Nancy Shafer of Henderson, NV.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dick and Cary Shafer.
A memorial service will be held on Oct. 11th at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Slabtown Rd., Columbus Grove, OH with visitation from 10 AM until time of service. Burial will be at Altstaetter Cemetery near Cairo, OH.
