WILBUR HAGER
WAPAKONETA — Wilbur Lee Hager, 81, of Wapakoneta, died 10:05 a.m., Mon. June 16, 2014, at the scene of an auto-golf cart accident at the corner of Monroe & Conant Rds. in Auglaize Co. He was born Aug. 23, 1932, in Logan Twp., Auglaize Co., the son of Earl & Elma (Walther) Hager, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 18, 1955, he married Merlene J. Louth, and she survives in Wapakoneta.
Other survivors include, 2 children, Melanie (Scott) Hutcherson, Winona Lake, IN, Jeffrey (Karen) Hager, Wapakoneta, 7 grandchildren, Kayla, Danielle & Jacob Hutcherson, Chris (Jeanette) Hager, Nick Hager, Nate Hager, & Cori Hager, a great granddaughter, Jane Hager, 2 siblings, Don (Claudette) Hager & Dorothy (Jim) Morgan, both of Lima, Sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Ruthela Hager, St. Marys, OH; Sandy (Jay) Koenig, Wapakoneta; & Larry (Joan) Louth, Dallas, TX.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Curtiss Hager.
A lifelong farmer, Wilbur retired as an engineer in 1994 from Ford Motor Co., Lima Engine Plant, after 39 years service. He was a member of the Bethlehem Christian Union Church, Buckland, where he served as an elder for 38 years and taught Sunday school. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Buckland Telephone Service Co. A 1950 graduate of Buckland High School, he was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. His first love was to his Lord, but he most especially enjoyed spending time with his children & grandchildren and farming.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Fri. June 20, 2014, at Bethlehem Christian Union Church, near Buckland, with Pastors Kent Place, Bill Meyers, Joe Wenger & Daniel Messner officiating. Burial will follow in the Ft. Amanda Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W., Post #8445. The family will receive friends at Bethlehem Christian Union Church from 2-8 p.m., Thurs. and 1 hr prior to the service, Fri. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church. Funeral arrangements are being conducted by the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville.

As we shared when we saw you at Wilbur's Visitation last Thursday, the impact of Wilbur's life leaves behind an influence for good that touches the lives of many others. Wilbur's Christian witness will live forever as a blessing to this world! From our shared Army service to our last great visit together, Wilbur was the brother I never had, and I cherish the friendship we shared and will miss him tremendously, as will all who had the honor of knowing him! 58 years ago Wilbur & Merlene entered our lives at Ft. Hood, TX. Many miles have since separated us physically but a common bond of respect, Faith, Hope and Love continue to bind us together. Aunt Merlene, Melanie, Jeff and extended family -- Sally and I were indeed saddened to hear of Uncle Wilbur's death. He was a kind and gentle man. Uncle Wilbur will be remembered as a man who treated us and our children as if we were his own. Our prayers are with you all during this time of grief. He is with his Lord.
