LIMA -- William E. "Bill" Fender, 87, passed away peacefully at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the Roselawn Manor Nursing Home.
Bill was born July 13, 1937, in Bryan, OH, to the late Walter A. and Anna Mae (Becker) Fender. In December 1967 he married Joann L. (Hull) Fender.
Bill was a 1955 graduate of St. Rose Catholic High School and served in the United States Army Reserves. He was a former co-owner of the 5 Acres Auto Recycling Center and retired from the Allen County Engineers Office. Bill never met a stranger; he enjoyed helping others and loved to farm. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived of his wife of 56 years, Joann L. Fender of Lima; daughter, Linda (Cris) Hamant of Cincinnati; daughter-in-law, Blakely Fender of Jackson, MS; granddaughters, Elizabeth "Libby" Hamant, and Anna Hamant both of Cincinnati, and grandsons, Luke Fender, and Will Fender both of Jackson, MS; sisters, Judie (Jim) Bourk of Lima, Jean Fender of Columbus, Janet (Dennis) Thompson of Lincoln, CA, Ann (John) Bixler of Columbus, Mary (Bruce) Sink of Chandler, AZ; and brother-in-law, Michael Hull of Lima.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Ronald Joseph "Ron" Fender; brother, Anthony "Tony" (Mary Lou) Fender; and a sister, Nancy Obert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 240 W. Robb Ave., Lima, OH 45801. Father Mike Sergi will officiate the service. Burial of cremated remains will take place in Gethsemani Cemetery following the Mass.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Gerard Catholic Church.
