HARROD -- William F. Heffner, 91, of Harrod, passed away peacefully into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ at 3:32 PM on Monday, May 1, 2023 at his residence, surrounded by the love and support of his caring, loving family. He had fought a long, hard battle with many illnesses, Parkinson's, dementia and strokes.
He was born June 23, 1931 in the old Heffner farmhouse near Westminster to Carnott and Ethel (Kolhorst) Heffner who preceded him in death. On June 3, 1951 he married his high school sweetheart Maxine Sneary Heffner, who survives in Harrod.
Bill was a lifelong farmer. He graduated from Auglaize Local High School, Class of 1949. While in high school he showed his steer at the Allen County Fair when it was on the streets of Delphos. He was a faithful member of Westminster United Church of God, where he served as a past deacon and trustee.
He was a life member of the Ohio Farmer's Union, where he served as a past president and vice-president of the Allen County Farmer's Union and was a member and past president of the Allen County Cattleman's Association and received the "Outstanding Agricultural Service Award" in 2002. Bill was also a member and past president of the Westminster Volunteer Fire Department. He received many awards and plaques for his faithful services to the department.
In addition to his wife of 71 years Maxine Heffner of Harrod, are his son Brad (Marlo) Heffner of Harrod; his grandsons Logan Heffner and Austin Heffner; his step-granddaughter, Ashley (Kolt) Stauffer; his step great-grandchildren Raelyn Stauffer, Kason Stauffer, Dawson Stauffer and Adalyn Stauffer.
He was preceded in death by his son Rod L. Heffner; his grandson Mason Heffner; his brother Roger Heffner and his sister Florence Reed
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Eastside Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Eastside Chapel, with Rev. Patrick Kamler, officiating.
Interment in Salem Westminster Cemetery will immediately follow the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster Fire Department.
The family would like to send a sincere "Thank You" to Dr. Salim Hanna, Putnam County Homecare and Hospice for their wonderful nurses and caretakers.
