Geraldine Marshall Obituary
Geraldine Symaner Marshall (affectionately known as Gerry) was born on June 6, 1937, in Claremont, North Carolina, to the late Pearl and Virginia Mundy. She departed this life surrounded by loving family on July 28, 2025.
Geraldine accepted Christ at an early age at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in North Carolina. Later, she became a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Cecil Ferrell. She served faithfully on the Senior Ushers' Board until her health began to fail.
She graduated from Catawba Rosenwald High School on May 17, 1956. She was voted Most Popular in her senior high school year, known as the best dancer, and remembered for her witty sayings. She also played on the women's basketball team and often bragged about how good she was.
After graduation, she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. There, she attended cosmetology school and became a hairstylist. She was also employed at Frisch's Big Boy. Geraldine was a proud member of the Eastern Star.
Geraldine met her husband, Eckie Marshall Jr., and they were married on May 22, 1967. To this union, four children were born: Edwin, Virgil, Virginia, and Monika. She was also blessed to share her life with four of her husband's children-Helen, Zabiyah, Michael, and Mackeroy-whom she loved and adored as her own. She was a wonderful mother to all the children.
Geraldine enjoyed family gatherings and had a special love for sports, especially the Cincinnati Reds. Her hobbies included cooking, shopping, traveling, and gardening. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. Together, Eckie and Geraldine owned a cleaning service for over twenty years prior to their retirement.
The family acknowledges with grateful hearts the care given to Geraldine by her husband, Eckie, during her extended illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and Virginia Mundy; her brothers, Oscar and Norman; and her son, Virgil Marshall.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Eckie Marshall Jr.; children: Helen (Joe) Clark, Zabiyah (Ahiqar) Israel, Edwin (Lorraine) Marshall, Michael (Lashaun) Marshall, Mackeroy Marshall, Virginia (Shannon) Murray, and Monika Steele; and five generations of grandchildren, along with many extended family members and friends.
Visitation is from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm, on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 2365 Compton Road, Cincinnati (45231). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 12:00 pm. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy she leaves behind.
Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45232.
