Kimberly Smith Obituary

Kimberly Smith, born to the union of Leon and Inez Cox in Chicago, Illinois, passed away after a brief illness on April 18, 2024. In her early years she embraced Christianity, attended services at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ and Greater Gallilee Baptist Church. Preferring the name "Kim," she graduated from Percy L. Julian High School, and pursued further education at Olive Harvey College. A highly articulate and driven sales professional, Kim excelled at connecting with customers and building client relationships. She thrived as an award-winning telemarketing representative for Time Warner in Chicago's legendary downtown district for more than ten years. Kim, a woman of strength, independence, and dedication, was a devoted wife who deeply loved her family and friends. She took pleasure in fine outdoor dining and exploring new restaurants with her husband. She often watched television programs based on forensic science documentaries such as the 'Forensic Files,' true-story films, and political news for entertainment. Despite her longing to travel the world, she set out on enriching adventures to Acapulco, Puerto Rico, and many cities across the United States. Kim loved to dress and enjoyed going shopping for new clothes! In times of adversity or triumph, she would often say, "God bless the child that's got his own!" Kim's legacy will endure as a testament to her resilience, determination, self-reliance, and passion for life's riches. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Ophelia and Ira Bennett; brother Darrell Cox; father Leon Cox; and mother Inez Cox. She is survived by her husband Marcus Smith; daughter Joy Cox; sister Lisa Cox; niece Kelli Cox; great-niece De'jah Graham; great-great niece Kaylani Dembry; grandmother Erma Jean Bennett; aunts Wilma Bennett, Belinda Lawson (Kirk), Sharon Bennett, Brenda Douse (Jerome), Valerie Bennett; uncles Daniel Cox (Valerie), Erwin Bennett (Denise), Ira Eugene Bennett (Christy), Derrick Bennett and other cousins, relatives and friends. Visitation is from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm, on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the Walker Funeral Home - Walnut Hills Chapel, 2625 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati (45206). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 3:00 pm.
