Terri Doughman Obituary
Terri Lynne Doughman was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Anna Mae Givens Doughman and Helmer Spencer Doughman on March 5, 1953. She passed away on July 7, 2025, surrounded by the love and warmth of her devoted family. Terri's life was one of compassion, commitment, and unwavering love for others.
A proud graduate of Walnut Hills High School, Class of 1971, Terri went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from The Ohio State University in 1978. In 1989, she became a licensed social worker, solidifying her lifelong dedication to the well-being of children and families.
Terri's professional journey began at the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, continued with Cincinnati Public Schools, and ultimately flourished during her 28-year tenure at Hamilton County Job and Family Services. Known for her deep empathy and steadfast work ethic, Terri was honored as the Outstanding Foster Care Case Worker of the Year in 1991-a testament to her remarkable ability to connect, uplift, and advocate for the most vulnerable. Her work touched countless lives, and she was deeply respected by colleagues, families, and the broader community.
Terri was preceded in death by her beloved life partner, Kenneth Summers, whose love and companionship were her constant source of joy. She was also preceded in death by her dear brother, James Eric Doughman.
Terri found great joy in life's simple pleasures-her annual trips to St. Thomas, photography, and crafting. Her home was a colorful reflection of her spirit, adorned with island-inspired decor, artistic touches, and her love for marine life. She had an extraordinary eye for design and an infectious appreciation for vibrant color and beauty.
Above all, Terri will be remembered for her boundless heart. She had a nurturing soul and a gift for making every child feel seen, heard, and deeply loved-whether they were family by blood or by bond. Her legacy is one of kindness, care, and quiet strength, and she leaves behind a living tapestry of lives changed by her love. She never missed the opportunity to celebrate a birthday or major life accomplishment for those she loved dearly!
Terri is survived by her siblings, Sandra Smiley, Pamela Doughman Hardy, and Helmar Spencer (Cynthia) Doughman; her sister/cousin Janeen Thomas; and a host of nieces and nephews who adored her: Stacey Thomas, Monica Thomas, Alesa Thomas, Corey Thomas, Edwin Hardy, Abram (Crystal) Doughman, Teri (Marvin Sr.) Hunter, Seth (Ashley) Doughman, Maya Doughman, Nakeya Doughman, and Camille Alexander.
