KATHY
It was 1965 when I met my soon to be sister Kathy & Mom, Wanda in Hutchinson at their farm. Kathy took me for my 1st horseback ride that day, I was 7 & she was 13. It was the first of many firsts for us both. Our parents soon married that fall & it rocked her world yet made us draw & bond to each other. We were a family of 6 now although my oldest sister Gwen went to college that fall. We moved to Washita, OK. Kathy left Grandma & Grandpa Enoch ( her safe place), her horse Ginger & the farm in Hutchinson. I gained a sister, mom & grandparents. In her rebellion of this move..she would say to me at night, (as we shared a room) to be quiet..I will be back & sneak out the window! My dad nailed the screen on several times!! I learned what grounded meant!! Occasionally while our parents were on a date night I got to lay down in the back seat of her boyfriend´s car & drag through Anadarko, OK. & get a pop at the drive-in. My brother Ron (1 year older than her) caught us..but didn´t tell! Her boyfriends & my brothers friends would tickle & toss me around & I felt special. Kathy always protected me! When we moved to Lawrence I was in 4th grade & Kathy in High School. We both loved Lawrence & I still do. We witnessed Black Power movement & many Hippie protests in the late 60´s & 70´s. Daisy´s were her favorite flower & she painted them on many things, the Sun lamp was a good way to tan until she fell asleep! Ouch! Again the sneaking out was her favorite or a good party when the parents went out of town! There was always a boy w/o a date & we would bake cookies or make popcorn balls! Kathy graduated LHS & I finished 7th grade at Central Jr High & we got transferred again to Broken Arrow, OK. My brother was in college & sister Gwen was working in Dallas. Kathy finished dental hygienist school in KS. She would visit in OK. & would allow me to sneak out a few times! She took me out one day in mom´s 1969 Mercury Marquee! It had a hood ornament on it & she said put that hood ornament on the white line on the side of the road & go straight...you will be fine! I still drive that way with confidence! After meeting Chuck, Gwen & I rode the bus to be in their wedding in Lawrence..I kept that dress a long time! Dad transferred again to Longview, TX. In between my Jr & Sr year. I got my first car, a Camaro with a CB Radio & begged to roadtrip to KS by myself! When I got to Lecompton I got the full Perry Lake experience! Speed boat, 2 person sail boat (wind died & Tom passed out & I swam us in) again I was entertained as Kathy´s little sister! I didn´t make curfew that night & Chuck wasn´t pleased & Kathy Laughed!! We always stayed in communication even when kids & life got busy. We even managed to take Julie & Jessica to Cancun after High School graduation. It was easy to spot the Blonde Girls Dancing from our perch !! I did my best to get to see mom in Lawrence & Kathy would stop by to see me. We saw each other more often as mom´s health declined & she passed. While making arrangements we discovered her dad & my mother died on the same road the same year 1964 about a month apart! I came to visit a little over a year ago & it was another night for the books: Kathy driving us to The Pub & Chuck & I had a beverage & then home to sit on the deck and reminisce & laugh until we cried. We buried old wounds that night & shared our secrets & burdens of growing up in our family of 6! I have been blessed to have the love of Kathy for 60yrs & I will treasure ALL the memories! Chuck, Jason, Sarah, Taylor & Evan, Julie, Grady, Mia & Reese I pray this order of your names daily & have for years. I will continue to pray for you all! Your family bond is a special love many don´t have & you all are witness´s to those you meet!
Our hearts on earth are broken.
Many words are left unspoken.
Yet we celebrate the smile on your face as Jesus receives you in His embrace.
I Will See You Again Sister! Debbie Cole

So sorry for your loss. Kathy was a wonderful person I always enjoyed talking with her when our girls were cheerleaders in Middle school. She was always so kind.
