Eleanor Fogle Obituary
Eleanor "Ann" (Wipf) Fogle, born to Dr. Albert & Eva Wipf on May 18, in the year of our Lord, 1934 in Menno, SD. Ann entered into her Heavenly home on April 12, 2022.
Ann, as all her friends called her, relished her early years. From spending time at her dad's dental office to playing basketball on the hoop nailed to the alley garage. Ann had many wonderful memories of Menno; from writing the schools spirit song, to Homecoming Queen, to family events with her older brother Al, younger sisters Dee and Joy, aunts, uncles and cousins to simply spending time with friends in those early years.
Ann attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD where she met and married Richard "Rich" Fogle. They first lived in Aberdeen, SD then Sioux Falls, SD where their son Richard and their first daughter Elizabeth were born, and then Williston, ND where their last child, Sara was born. From Williston the family moved to: Spokane, WA, Rocky River, OH, Sterling Park, VA, Livonia, MI, La Palma, CA, Livonia, MI, San Juan, PR, Coral Springs, FL, San Juan, PR, Sun City West, AZ, Lodi, CA and finally Sun City, AZ.
If you followed the 15 plus moves Ann made, you realize she was a woman of unique patience and skill. Richard was an upwardly mobile executive for International Harvester and Ford Motor Company while Ann was an outstanding wife, mother, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
Her family and friends marveled at her ability to adapt on so many levels and in so many places. Ann was legally deaf but that didn't stop her from living a full life. Not only was she an outstanding daughter and mother but also graduated from Madonna University in 1980 with a BA in gerontology.
In 1993 Ann and Rich retired and moved to Sun City West, AZ. Ann and Rich relished their "retirement" years by hosting their children and grandchildren and by being active in birding together while Ann enjoyed her Mahjong groups!
In 2012 Ann and Rich moved to Lodi, CA where they eventually moved in with their daughter Sara and her husband, Pastor Chris Townsend.
Rich went to Heaven in 2016 where we are sure he was the second one to hug Ann when she got there (Jesus was number one).
In her latter years, she became a puzzle person. Often completing puzzles in one day! Ann loved to read! From a variety of books to the Lodi News Sentinel. Always staying informed so she could converse on many subjects. She also received her hometown Menno, SD newspaper, the Hutchison Herald as a way of keeping informed of her past.
She was preceded in death by her father, Albert; mother, Eva; brother, Al; and husband, Richard. She is survived by her sisters Dee of AZ and Joy (Charles Smith) of WA; son, Richard (Karol Lin) OK; daughter, Elizabeth (Tim Merino) CA; daughter Sara (Chris Townsend) AZ; 6 grandchildren; Joshua (Carrie), Timothy (Whitney), Matthew (Ashley), Timothy (Raylene), Jason (Angie), Carlene (Chuck), and 10.75 great grandchildren (: LOL; Madelyn, Emily, Jack, Henry, Charlotte, Amelia, .75, Timothy, Andrew, Sophie and Theo.
Grandma Annie, as her grands called her, loved the Lord. In all the places she lived she sought out a Christian faith community to be part of. More often than not it was a church with a Lutheran heritage, like Emanuel Lutheran Church.
The family will be holding a celebration of Ann's earthly and eternal life on June 4th at 11am at Emanuel. Memorials may be sent to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1540 W. Lodi Ave., Lodi, CA 95242 in care of: Woman's Ministry "Knit 4 Kids".
