Jared Badger Obituary

"Loving son, brother, father and friend"
Jared Badger passed away on Monday October 6, 2014. He was born on February 3, 1977 in Provo, UT to Catherine and Farrell Badger of Mapleton Utah.
Jared was the oldest of 11 children. He grew up in Springville, Utah where he had many wonderful friends. He served an LDS mission to Lithuania. He married Megan Killpack in the Manti Temple and was later divorced. Jared was a devoted father to his two identical twin daughters Lauren (13) and Leanna (13) Badger, lovingly referred to as the 'chiclets'.
Jared lived in Midvale, Utah where he made a career doing what he excelled at in computer infrastructure and security. He was employed as the Senior IT Director of Infrastructure at Progressive Financial. He had a brilliant mind that allowed him to pick up almost any knowledge with ease. His days of formal schooling pretty much ended in Junior High even though he occasionally attended high school and Brigham Young University. An entire night reading complex technical books was his preferred method of learning. In the missionary training center others would wonder how he was learning Lithuanian without much study. He mastered it and prided himself on a near native accent. He also picked up piano the same way. Jared lived his life to the fullest as he pursued diverse passions from family history, to rock climbing, computers, astronomy and camping along with many others. He also just completed the St. George Marathon this last weekend. He traveled extensively including trips to Africa, Brazil, Ireland, and Jamaica among others.
Jared is survived by his parents, Catherine and Farrell Badger, and his two daughters Lauren and Leanna Badger along with his ten younger siblings -- Anna (Daniel) Seelos, Amy (Brent) Hedquist, Ryan Badger, Rachel (Patrick) Roundy, Jesse (Toni) Badger, Aaron (HaLee) Badger, Laurel (Dan) Kidd, Joel Badger, Ammon Badger, and Heather Badger. He is also survived by 10 adoring nieces and nephews -- with three on the way.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, October 11th, 2014, 11:00 am at the Heritage LDS Chapel on 1600 North Main Street in Mapleton, Utah. Family and friends may visit prior to the funeral from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.
The family wishes to thank all for their outpouring of love and support. It has been invaluable.

Jared was as selfless as they come. He is an example of love and had the purest soul. Always looking out for others. I'll miss his smiling eyes and his warm and welcoming smile. His big bear hugs were the best and he always had some good advice. He taught me so much. including a lesson in his passing. Always tell those you love that you love them and don't take them for granted. Always treat others as you would want to be treated. I can't even begin to really write about the impact he had on so many lives, but he was so many things to so many people. For me he was a past love and a long time friend. The last time I saw him was this past Apr/May. We had gone climbing for the last time together. I'll forever cherish that last memory I have with him. He will be greatly missed.

My wife and I lived in Jared's neighborhood in Springville when he was a young married man. Each of us appreciates the genuine kindness he regularly shared with us while he was there. Our life was made better by Jared.

I was blessed to know him as Elder Badger as I served with him in Lithuania. A truly devoted and fun missionary! He always had that huge smile which was contagious. I am so sad to hear of his passing and pray for comfort to all who are mourning at this sad time.

I worked with Jared at IBFX for ~3 years. I also had the opportunity to work with Jared back in the late 90's when he was a technology consultant. Jared was an incredibly intelligent person and could always work through technical issues like it was second nature. We also did some rock climbing together. Jared was always one to say something nice and be positive regardless of the discussion. You will be missed brother!

When my wife got sick in 2011 Jared and Vicki helped take care of our kids. We can't pass a church parking lot when it's snowing without our kids asking if we can stop and spin some donuts like Jared did. Our kids loved Jared. He helped our son finish his science fair project, set up a website, and taught him some basic coding. He came over one night and put a new hard drive in our computer and made it lightning fast.

He was kind and generous. We helped him lay sod and he took us to Ruths Chris for dinner. He took us out to the West Desert stargazing. He found the stars and planets and showed us how to use our telescope. He was a very intelligent guy and could converse on any subject. He had a warm smile and was a lot of fun to be around. We have many good memories of Jared and won't forget him. We're deeply saddened that he is gone.

I didn't know Jared well, but my time at IBFX always included a kind smile or gesture from him. RIP, Jared. May your family find peace and comfort.

I didn't know Jared well, but I heard very good things about him. He lived across the street from my parents (Val and Alicia Hermansen) I remember him dropping off a gift from his dog to my mom's dogs on Christmas Eve. He also was so nice, my mom told me when one of her dogs went missing, Jared drove her around in the middle of the night trying to find him. He clearly has a sweet heart and soul. Thank you Jared for being that good guy. I know you will be missed dearly. - Amy Hermansen

Jared hired me at Interbank FX several years ago and as a result had a significant impact on my life and the life of my family. We quickly became friends. Jared loved just about everyone. He was by far one of the most intelligent people I knew and I was always impressed with his learning abilities.

I'm not sure I ever had a meaningful encounter with him where he did not speak about his daughters. He would brag to me about how great they are and how proud he was of them.

Jared once helped me plant a tree in my backyard just because he hadn't ever done it before, and wanted the experience.

I have so many memories with Jared and learning experiences from him. While I am saddened by his sudden passing, I'm happy knowing he so positively influenced the lives of so many.

The human and computer networks he created will live on for many years to come.

Jared was a friend and former co-worker of mine. I often worked nights at Progressive and Jared often stayed late to complete projects for the company. During these times we often talked about work, technology, life, and other trivial things. I grew to love and respect him from these conversations.

Jared instilled in me, a desire to learn more. I saw potential in myself to grow in my current field. I felt Jared portrayed what I hoped would be my future: a fun, smart and successful person who was down to earth and relate-able.

He was generous and kind. I arrange lots of 'on-the-job training for me, as well as provided me with the tools I would need to succeed. It is humbling to watch someone of such success take a high interest in the success of others. It is a rare trait.

Jared will be missed. I was extremely saddened by the circumstances of his passing. I will forever be a role model in my mid, and I hope to emulate many of Jared's Traits throughout my life and career.

Thank you Jared for your great example to me and others.

I used to climb mountains with Jared. He was a very determined individual. Our Rainier trip was already full (there was a group size limit of 12), but he showed up at all the training climbs and worked harder than any of us to get ready. He told us he wanted to go even if he had to wear a Yeti suit to get around the park restrictions. :) Luckily a position opened up and he joined us for a really great time, made better for having him in the group.

We enjoyed knowing Jared as our next door neighbor. We always enjoyed our talks with him. He was like a kind, gentle giant. Last Winter I invited him over to watch some basketball playoff games and to eat pizza. We had a great time. We always enjoyed seeing his twin daughters when they came to visit. We will sorely miss Jared!
