Leatha (Lea) Gotte Obituary

Leatha passed peacefully on May 22, 2018, at the age of 96 with family by her side. She was born in Headrick, OK, to Erby and Dee Higgs. She had one younger sister. The family moved to Modesto, CA when she was eight years old.
Lea attended Modesto High School where she met her future husband, Ted. They went to Modesto Jr. College and she worked at JCPenny's. They were married on April 17, 1942. Together, they built their own home doing most of the work themselves. She worked for the City of Modesto until their daughter, Lynne, was born. In 1956, they moved to Stockton for Ted's work.
They decided to relocate to Lodi in April of 1973 because they were playing a lot of golf at Woodbridge Country Club. Lea was the 18-Hole Women's Champion in 1973 and 1977. She also loved to play bridge. Her golf and bridge friends were very special and kind to her. She also belonged to Marc Club, The Wednesday Club and the former "100 Ladies" bridge group. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and of course, shopping.
Lea was fondly known as Nan to her grandson, Robby, and his many friends. She enjoyed attending his many sports activities.
Lea was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years when Ted passed in 1991. Also her parents, sister Winona Paulsen and niece, Judi Poulson.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynne (Bob) Hargis and grandson, Robby Day, of Lodi. Also her nephews in Turlock, CA and Utah.
The family sincerely thanks the staff at Fairmont Rehabilitation Hospital and Hospice of San Joaquin for their love and support.
There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, July 7th, 2018 from 1-4 p.m. at Woodbridge Golf & Country Club, 800 E. Woodbridge Rd. in Woodbridge, CA. Mom/Nan you lived a wonderful life and your family, neighbors and friends will truly miss you.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA 95205, or charity of donor's choice. Lodi Funeral Home helped the family with arrangements and her final resting place is at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson, CA.
