Robert Riggle Obituary

On Tuesday March 20, 2007, Robert E. Riggle, known to his friends as Bob passed away and is now spending eternity in paradise with his wife, Vi and a lifetime's collection of great dogs. Bob was 81.
He lived in Lodi all his life, graduated from Lodi High, spent time in the Army Air Corps during WWII and the Air Force during the Korean conflict. He got his Bachelors degree sometime after time in the Air Force and his Masters degree from the University of the Pacific several years into his teaching career.
Mr. Riggle is well known in Lodi because he spent several years teaching science and math at Needham School and several years teaching math at Lodi Senior Elementary School as well. He retired from teaching on June 12th 1987. Bob was honest, trustworthy and passionate about teaching, a great husband and great father.
Bob always enjoyed exercise, especially walking with his wife, Vi and their dogs. Bob and Vi loved Lodi and Lodi Lake and spent many evenings walking the dogs, often visiting the wilderness area for it was their favorite spot. Vi passed away in April of 2003.
He also loved riding his bike, playing tennis and Studebakers. He continued to walk his dog Happy, ride his bike and play tennis 3 times a week until shortly before his death.
Bob is survived by his daughter Marcia and his son Robert. Marcia and Robert are both married and Robert has 2 children, Oliver and Ana Maria. Oliver shares his grandfather's love for history and Ana Maria has been living with her grandfather since shortly after the death of her grandmother. She is a music teacher and one of the schools she teaches at is the first school her grandfather taught at Village Oaks.
We would like to thank all of you who have been friends with dad (Bob) all of these years and all of you who prayed for dad and visited him in the hospital during his sickness. We will never forget your kindness and compassion.
Thank you.
Sincerely, Robert Oliver Riggle & Marcia Walsh

Mr. Riggle was one of my math teachers at Lodi Sr El (~1970). He was a good instructor, and I highly value good math instructors. He was appreciated! Blessings to your family.

My deepest condolences go out to Mr. Riggle's family. He was my junior high math teacher in the mid-80s, and in recent years it was always great to see him out on the tennis courts. He always had a smile and a kind word and he will be missed.

Please accept my deepest condolences in the loss of your Dad. I was a student of his at Senior Elementary in the early 70's. Math was not my strongest subject and your father worked w/ me after school showing compassion and patience, and for that I thought of him often. Remember that a loved one lives forever in the hearts of those who cared, and lives forever in the memories that were shared.

Mr Riggle was my math teacher at Lodi Senior Elementary School when I was in seventh grade (1971). I distinctly remember him staying over after school to help me. Later in life I would see him from time to time around town (usually riding his bike)and he always had time to chat. Mr. Riggle was one of those special people in my life that helped me to succeed. I am very sorry for your loss. I will miss him greatly as well.

Mr. Riggle (Bob), I was a student of Bob's while in the 7th & 8th grade, for Algebra. He was very tough but I respected him. I did very well mainly because he expected me to. Through the years I would see him aroung town and at the tennis club. He was always friendly and remembered who I was. I always shook his hand. He was a good man and will be missed and not forgotten. He was an unsung hero in my life. Sorry for your loss.

Not only was Bob one of the best teachers I had growing up (he was my math teacher at Needham School back in '62), but he was also a great mentor to me when I began teaching in '79 at Lodi Senior El. Bob had a great sense of humor as well as a keen sense of right and wrong. He was never one to mince words. You always knew where he stood. He was a great guy. After he retired he would sometimes stop in just to say 'hi' to me at Liberty High. I am going to miss him.
