Gargiulo, Charles H.

Charles "Charlie" H. Gargiulo, 76, formerly of Chestnut Ridge, NY, died suddenly on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center.

The son of the late Enrico and Elvira Pirillo Gargiulo, he was born on January 6, 1938 in the Bronx. Charlie married Concetta "Etta" Lasco on July 14, 1962 in the Bronx and they shared nearly 52 years of marriage together. He worked as a Junior High School Math Teacher, first for 8 years at P.S. 139 in Harlem and then at Pomona Junior High School for 30 years.

His family will remember Charlie as a loving husband, father and Pop-Pop who was devoted to his family. He had a great sense of humor and was a very spiritual man. He was a passionate teacher who loved his job. With all his endeavors, his family came first and foremost..

In addition to his beloved wife Etta; he is survived by his four children; Anthony of New Windsor, Joseph and his wife Amy of Greenwood Lake, Charles Gargiulo, Jr. of Corning, NY and Gina Marie Doherty and her husband Peter of Leominster, MA; one sister, Vera Ann Gargiulo of Scarsdale, NY; sister-in-law, Lorraine Gargiulo of Yonkers, NY., and 4 grandchildren, P.J., Gianna, Phillip and Mary Grace.

Visitation hours will be from 2- 4 & 6-8 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. Fr. Anthony Sorgie will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow in the family plot in Ascension Cemetery, 650 Saddle River Rd, Airmont, NY 10952. Memorial contributions in Charles' name may be made to St. Stephen's St. Edward's School 75 Sanfordville Road, Warwick, NY 10990. www.applebee-mcphillips.com

Charlie was a sweet man, a gentleman. Charlie was fun to chat with as his laugh would highlight his sense of humor. No words will help the Gargiulo Family grieve through this time of sadness & loss.
