She was born in Nyack, NY on April 7, 1929, the only child of Orpha (nee Oakley) and Clifford Nickerson. Her loving husband, Robert, predeceased her in 1998.

She is survived by her children, Jill (Edward) Hanzus, Joan (Michael) Nozkowski, Mark (Diane) Papenmeyer, Lisa (Robert) Pantale and Lori (Anthony) Amodeo. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Doris was a devoted nurse for 31 years at Nyack Hospital and in her final weeks she was cared for and visited by some of the dedicated people with whom she previously worked.

Friends may pay their respects Thursday May 12, 2011 from 2 - 5 & 7 to 9 pm at the "Family Owned" Joseph W. Sorce F.H. Inc., where a prayer service will be held on Friday May 13, 2011 at 11:00am

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions are made to United Hospice Of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956. The wonderful nurses, home aides and administrative personnel filled her final days with compassion and dignity and served as a support unit for the family.
