DOROTHY VAIL Obituary

Dorothy Wilson Vail, beloved wife of Earle Vail, passed away at her home on July 23, 2002 at the age of 89 years. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Smith Wilson and Charles Wilson. Mrs. Vail was born in Tuckahoe, NY, in 1912. She graduated from Eastchester High School in 1930, and received her RN Degree from the Mount Vernon Hospital School of Nursing in 1933. She worked as a private duty nurse for Mr. Max Dreyfus, founder of ASCAP, until her marriage in 1939 at St. James Episcopal Church, North Salem, NY. She was an active member of the American Red Cross, and a leader of the Girl Scout Troop of North Salem. She was also very involved with the Hammond Museum in North Salem and a volunteer for FISH. She touched the lives of everyone around her with her kindness and compassion. She was a warm and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend and neighbor who dedicated her life to helping others. A lover of animals, she was known for taking in stray cats and wounded birds. Squirrels and Chipmunks ate peanuts from her hands. Mrs. Vail was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Milton and Harold Wilson, and her son, Richard Earle Vail. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years; her daughter, Susan Vail Condon of Falmouth, MA; grandchildren Mary Vail Rubini of Brewster, NY; Richard Vail of Kent, NY; Lisa Condon of Shelburne, VT; Sean Condon of Wicker, Germany; and Cristin Vail Condon of Woods Hole, MA. Also by four great-grandchildren, Simon and Matteo Rubini, Seamus Maxwell and Celina Condon. Calling hours will be on Friday, July 23, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 27 at 10 am at St. James Episcopal Church in North Salem. Burial will follow at June Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to St. James Episcopal Church, Box 459, North Salem, NY, 10560.
