Gabe - Eleven years since God brought you home and I am down one good friend.
Very few days pass when I don´t think about you.

Artimus he would yell at the top of his lungs or Artie he would call me because that's what they call a “handy guy who worked in a hardware store” Constantly ribbing and funny as hell….smart caring loyal trusting….attributes of a great friend. I love you to death Artie…kiss your beautiful wife and your beautiful children, God Bless …..that was the last message he left me a few days before his passing and as always left you with saying something nice. Those of us who knew him well knew of a genuinely kind gentle soul who loved life and deeply cared about his friendships. For friendship and family were most important to Gabe and we all treasured his friendship as well… comradery he would say. Fun loving and always up for a good time…. a smile and loud laugh that was contagious. Never judgmental or opinionated and always kept it lighthearted….boy am I gonna miss him. We lost a good man that was too young to leave us all. What helps me mourn him now is that I know he is at peace and reunited with his beautiful parents.
God Bless you Puma.
Love David aka Artie

Dear Marc and family--Although I am far away right now I just wanted you to know I am thinking of you each moment of these difficult days. I only met Gabe twice but I remember him as a most engaging and funny storyteller. Brief though his stay here in this life, I've no doubt he added love and levity to the lives of many he met. God grant him rest and to his family, the peace and faith that looks beyond tears.

RIP Gabe! May God welcome you into his kingdom with open arms.

I only worked with Gabe for a couple of years, but always looked forward to running into him at Court. I will always remember ditching Court with him to watch the Yankees World Series parade and how he always greeted everyone with a joke or a smile. He will be truly missed. Dear Mero Family & Friends,
Words fall short of expressing my sorrow for your loss. Gabe was a sweet guy with a BIG heart! I share your grief at this difficult time. Sending all my love & strength your way. I will never forget Gabriel, gone to soon!

February 5, 2014

I didn't know Gabe very well but my friends and I always admired from a distance. I remember the first time we seen him it was around the summer of 81 in the 'field' between Donaghmede and Grange Abbey and what we saw took our breath away. We thought he was a movie star, with those dark handsome looks, we'd never seem anyone like him before. I would guess he became most teenage girl's secret hearthrob in donaghmede :) . I only became aware of his death through friends from the old neighbour who had posted of it on FB. So sad because whilst I didn't know him too well he always said hello and smiled when passing. Being a teenager we weren't accustomed to this in our neighbourhood as the local lads would generally be more inclined to make a smart remark if you didn't belong to the 'in' crowd. Rest in peace Gabe, you left a mark on a lot of people during your short time in Dublin.

Gabe, your beautiful smile and kind heart will never be forgotten. Memories from law school and our early days practicing in White Plains will always bring a smile to my face. My deepest sympathy to your family. "God Bless"

My condolences to Gabe's family on their loss. Gabe and I went to law school together and over the years whenever we saw each other in court, even though some time had passed, he was always quick with a joke and a smile. I hope you all take comfort in knowing that Gabe was one of the good guys and will be missed.

Dear Gabe (Johnny Bravo) Mero,
I was 25 and you were 35 years old when we first met. I remember discussing with you how weird that was that it took over a quarter of a century for us cousins to get together. I hardly spoke English, you hardly spoke Hungarian but we had a good laugh. You took me to the Statue of Liberty, we walked over Manhattan, which meant the world to me then. I had Gabe sacrifising a whole day of his busy life to get to know me.
We hardly spoken since and I feel awful about it! Life took over, everyone is busy and we just carried on living our lives as we did before.

Gabe, rest in peace and we will never forget you!
Your Hungarian cousin,
Szilard

When I first came to America from Dublin I stayed with my cousins, the Keanes in Yonkers. Gabe was a good family friend of my cousins and he was one of the first Americans I could really relate to. We bonded over his Dublin background, and boy he could put on a real Dublin accent. He would make me laugh with his stories from when he lived in Dublin, and he always expressed the love he had for his mother and family Back in Ireland.
He was one bubbly character and I will remember his great laugh and smile. I know you're looking down on all of us and Will be watching over you're family and friends . RIP .. Up the Dubs ..

When I heard the news this week of Gabe's passing my heart truly broke. I haven't seen him in a few years but I will always remember him as a gentle and sweet soul. He had a special warmth about him that made even a friend of a friend feel like HIS best friend. I've never met a person like that in my life. He was one of those rare charismatic individuals who no matter how much time elapses you can never forget. With a heavy heart I say Good bye my friend , you were truly one of a kind.. alex

Most of my memories of Gabe is from when Mark and I were kids growing up. Always smiling and joking with us , always very positive when i saw him. Always had time to say hello to you and ask how your doing. "Hope you an my brother ain't getting in any trouble ,because yo I'll tro you all beatens that's 1,2,an tree beatens" Mark an my self just laughing with him an trying to imitate. Last time I saw him was in college and he was saying "I'm glad your not sitting on your brain or I woulda trown you a beaten " laughing and smiling . From what I can tell on his short time an all of what family and friends have said , he lived life well to have touched so many . God bless you Gabe , you made us smile and laugh with you.

Sad times indeed - RIP Gabe

February 3, 2014

Dearest Gabe :
I have been weeping on and off the entire weekend.
This is the first time in my life thus far that I have experienced the loss of someone I called a friend.
I will never forget outr time together as tough Litigators at DK & A.
You brought a smile to my face every time i saw you come into the office after court, cook up your lunch - pork chops, peas, etc], not to mentionobserving from the next office over from yours, the 'traffic' of phone calls you received - and you know from who/whom.
As the Senior Trial Attorney in Larry's office, I observed you during trial on a few occasions and was amazed that you werte so relaxed, so at home during any given trial, at peace with the effort you were putting forth.
Lisa nd I had the privilege of attending your wedding reception a few short years ago.
We had a blast and I was thinking about the affair the entire weekend.
I remember how much you loved your daughter, how much you loved your Dad, how much of a family guy you were.
You were my friend.
The ultimate irony is that I was going to call you this week or next to catch up with you[this is true].
I called your cell phone this past Friday to hear your voice one last time.
The Good Lord knows that at the end, you had several crosses to bear.
Rest easy my friend.
Your daughter will be fine, your friends will be fine, your brothers and nieces and nephews will be fine.
As for me, I will always remember the times that I confided in you regarding conflicts I was having with Lisa, conflicts with other family members, etc. You always had a calming influence on me , and I could always expect to laugh with you whenever we met in court after our days of working together.
On this snowy Monday morning in Westchester, I try to put into perspective your life, and death.
You helped me become a calmer person, you made this world a better place during the short time that you were here, you brought love, friendship, humor, compassion to this Earth.
You belong to the ages Gabe- hard to let go but warm memories, warm feelings, somewhat cushion the blow of your passing.
I will miss you very much.
Take Care.
Oh, and when you meet my DAD up there in Heaven, tell him that I miss him very much after all these 23 years without him, and finally, tell him that we were friends.
Until we meet again,
Your Friend,
Robert[a/k/a Mr. S].
