GEORGE BOCHOW Obituary

George A. Bochow, Jr., born September 25, 1946, died suddenly on January 8, 2010. He was an NYU grad and played baseball there. He went on to play pro-baseball for the SF Giants farm team and later worked for NY Hospital and Manufacturer's Hanover. In addition to being an outstanding athlete, he also had a passion for gardening, cooking and the ocean. The only thing that reached further than his legendary mammoth home runs was the generosity of his heart and caring nature. He was pre-deceased by his father Dr. George A. Bochow. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Mary Bochow; siblings Beryl (Norman) Hay, Alyson (Gary) Cohen, Brian (Donna Gooch) Bochow, Michel (Peter Francese) Bochow, Gregory Bochow; and many loving nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday 10 am at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to: Jon Breen Fund memo to George Bochow, 100 California Rd Mount Vernon, NY 10550 c/o Vera Glazewski - for the George Bochow Baseball Award, a scholarship for a senior player that exhibits high standards of character and achievement. George and I played baseball at MVHS in 1963 and I followed his exploits. He left us way too soon. Often I think of him and his great smile,

I remember George quite well when we played baseball at MVHS. He was a fun guy, awonderful teammate and well regarded and like by all who knew him. After I graduated in 1963, I never saw him again, but read his exploits as a baseball star at NYU. I had rhe pleasure of knowing his nephew Brian, who I worked with when he was part of the City Hall administration in 2009. I also knew other members of his family. Here it is at the end of 2023 and my thoughts fo back to the Bochows.
