GERALDINE ANTKU Obituary

Geraldine Antku, born June 6, 1918 in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, died peacefully on December 10, in Oakdale, NY. She was predeceased by husband Charles T. Antku, brother Edward McKernan, sister Irene Leahy, and Frances Rusnak and is survived by sons Charles T. Antku, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Oakdale, NY, Gary P. Antku and his wife Catherine of Peoria, AZ. Grandchildren include Rachel Antku Zimmermann and Owen Antku, both of Oakdale, NY, Patrick Sheehy of Surprise, AZ; great-grandchildren Bill and Anna Zimmermann and Elliot and Travis Sheehy. She is also survived by nine nieces and nephews and their families. Born and raised in Hastings, she spent 88 years of her life there before health issues forced her to leave. She graduated from both St. Matthews Catholic School, and Hastings High School. She was married in St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church and was a lifelong parishioner there. After high school she worked as a telephone operator at Zinssers, and the Anaconda Wire and Cable Company in Hastings, and Geige in Ardsley. She was very active in her community as a member of the VFW Post 200 Beatrice Gorman Ladies Auxiliary, the Busy Bees, the Senior Canteen and numerous other clubs and activities. She also spent time visiting veteran's facilities and nursing homes, where she would help to entertain the residents. She loved her family, friends and neighbors and was truly proud of living and raising a family in Hastings. Calling hours are Monday, 5-8PM at Hastings Funeral Home, 15 Spring Street. Hastings-on-Hudson, NY 10706. The Funeral Mass is Tuesday at St. Matthew's Church at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
