JERRALEE VANDERHOEF Obituary

Jerralee 'Jerre' McKnight Vanderhoef, age 86, a longtime resident of Rockland County, since 1946 died peacefully at home on Sunday, February 24, 2008. Jerre was born June 30, 1921 in Los Angeles, CA. She went to school there, finishing her education as an artist at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. As a local artist, she was identified primarily with watercolor landscapes of Rockland County and the Hudson Valley area, which she has been painting since the early 1950's. Although she has done many oil portraits, her favorite subject was painting the countryside and historical landmarks. Jerre taught landscape and still-life painting for a number of years at the Rockland Center for the Arts. She has many paintings in private collections throughout the country and has exhibited in both one-woman and group shows. She was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Rockland Center for the Arts and served as secretary, vice president and chairman at various times. Jerre is survived by her husband of 62 years, H. Kent Vanderhoef. She is survived by her son C. Scott Vanderhoef of Blauvelt, his daughters, Megan, Kimberly and Erin and his sons, Christopher and Robert, and daughter-in-law, Colleen; and her daughter S. Carole Vanderhoef Banks of Jacksonville, FL, her daughters, Lindsay and Lauren, and son-in-law, George Banks. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, 10 am, at the Greenbush Presbyterian Church in Blauvelt with burial to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, 7-9 pm and Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. Memorial contributions may be made in Jerre's name to a charity of one's choice.
