McCarthy, John W.

John W. McCarthy 77, a life long resident of Valhalla, N.Y. died peacefully on July 15, 2001 at White Plains Hospital. John was born on May 2, 1934 to the late William and Margaret McCarthy in White Plains, N.Y. He graduated from Stepinac High School in

1954 and attended Iona College. After serving proudly in the United States Army from 1957- 1962, he began a 30 year career with Westchester County Dept. of Social Services, retiring in 1991. John was devoted to his parish community at Holy Name of Jesus Church, in Valhalla, N.Y. serving many years on the Bingo Committee. He is survived by his three loving sisters; Patricia McCarthy and Joan Snow both of Valhalla, N.Y. and Peggy Fornara of Pleasantville, N.Y. seven nieces and nephews, eighteen grand nieces and nephews and seven great nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished. He always had hopes of winning the "big one" in the lottery but will be remembered for his thoughtful acts of kindness and generosity and quiet sense of humor. Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home, on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass, Holy Name of Jesus Church, Valhalla, N.Y. on Wednesday 10 AM. Interment, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y. In lieu of flowers donations to Valhalla Volunteer Ambulance Corps. or Social Concerns Committee, Holy Name of Jesus Parish, Valhalla, N.Y. would be appreciated.
