Nicholas Loucas Obituary

LOUCAS, ANARGYROS NICHOLAS Nicholas Anargyros Loucas age 93, of Haverstraw passed away August 9, 2005, peacefully at his son's home in Tomkins Cove, NY where he resided the past two years. Born February 20, 1912 in Hydra, Greece. A Captain in the Greek Merchant Marines, he came to Haverstraw in 1940 where he has resided ever since. He also became Captain in the American Merchant Marines for thirty seven years. He was second of five generations to own and operate Lucas Homemade Candies in the Village of Haverstraw, founded in 1896 by his uncle Constantine Lucas. Predeceased by his wife Penelope who operated the business when Captain Loucas was serving in the Merchant Marines, traveling around the world. Survived by his son Nicholas and wife Mary Gail and his grandchildren Nicholas and wife Carrie, Jason, and Natalie. One great-grandson Alexander, and one brother Athanasios and wife Matina of Tyros, Greece, also one cousin Thomas and Thomie Lukas and their three daughters and one grandson, Annoula, Demitra, Jeannie and Lukas from Long Island, NY. Also in Greece there are two cousins, Maria and Grace Lukas, and many loving family members. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the George M. Holt Funeral Home, Inc., 50 New Main Street, Haverstraw, NY. A Mass will be held 10:00 AM at St. Constantine and Helen Church, 1 Mary Crest Rd., West Nyack, NY, Friday August 12, 2005. Interment will follow at Mt. Repose Cemetery, Haverstraw, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Attention: Betty Wong, 560 Sylvan Ave., Englewood Cliffs, NJ 07632. GEORGE M.
