NICHOLAS MOCCIA Obituary

Nicholas S. Moccia of Yonkers, NY died on December 1, 2008. Born in Ardsley, NY on April 24, 1917 to Lorenzo and Raffaela (Zarella) Moccia, he was 91. He was raised in Ardsley and Dobbs Ferry, where he attended schools and played basketball, baseball and golf for Ardsley High School. While in school, he enjoyed caddying and in 1927 at the Sunningdale Country Club, he was the caddy for the Yankee Hall of Famers, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Tony Lazzeri. For forty-five years, he was a technician for Stauffer Chemical Co., retiring in 1982. Also until 2002, he was the beloved security and crossing guard at Horace Mann School in Riverdale. Unlike most students, he never missed a day of work at Horace Mann. A gentle soul, he will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. Beloved husband of the late Frances (Talone) Moccia. Devoted father of Lawrence (Alicia) Moccia of Yonkers, Nicholas D. Moccia of New City, NY and Mary Anne (Ronald) Romano of Yonkers. Dear grandfather of nine and great-grandfather of 11. Fond brother-in-law of Dan (Ann) Talone and Gloria Talone and Margaret Moccia. Cherished brother of the late Thomas and Anthony Moccia and Anne Zadarosni. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Sinatra Memorial Home, 601 Yonkers Ave. on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Church on Thursday at 10:30 AM. Entombment, Mt. Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, 785 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, NY 10605 preferred. www.SinatraFFH.com
