Patrick Massaro Obituary

Massaro, Patrick Thomas "Pat" (Pasquale)

Patrick Thomas Massaro passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 5th, 2017. He was born Pasquale Thomas Massaro on May 17, 1929 to Italian Immigrant parents, Vincenzo and Elvira Massaro in Irvington, NJ. He grew up in various New Jersey towns including Linden and graduated from Linden High School in 1947.

Pat proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict 1950-1954. He married Angelina ("Angie") Marie Zuzolo on October 10, 1954 at St Joseph's Church in Spring Valley, NY. Also, he was a long time member of Sacred Heart Church in Suffern, NY.

Pat is survived by his five children: daughter Susan Scrimenti and her husband Anthony Scrimenti of Saddle River, NJ; son Thomas Massaro and his wife Carol Massaro of Stony Point, NY; daughter Jean Massaro-Simpson and her husband Douglas Simpson of Suffern, NY; daughter Kathleen Hobson and her husband Scott Hobson of Summit, NJ; and son John Massaro and his wife Jeanne O. Massaro of Glen Rock, NJ.

Pat is also survived by his brother, Frank Massaro and his wife Fay Massaro of Somerset, NJ; his sister-in-law MaryAnn Heise of Chestnut Ridge, NY; his best friend, Herb Silverstein of Spring Valley, NY and dozens of cherished nieces and nephews.

Pat is pre-deceased by his wife, Angie Massaro, brother, Carl Massaro; sisters in law Lenore Massaro, Deannie Zuzolo and Ann Zuzolo; brothers in law Jerry Zuzolo, Phillip Zuzolo and William Heise; and niece Monica Lee Massaro.

Pat was blessed with 11 adoring grandchildren: William Dowling and his wife Jaclyn Dowling, Valerie Viggiano and her husband Bryan Viggiano, Christina Hobson, Mary Dowling, Deborah Massaro, Sean Massaro and his husband Damian Dymka, Gregory Hobson, Matthew Hobson, Danielle Massaro, Connor Massaro and Lauren Massaro. He most recently welcomed his first great grandson, Caiden John Massaro.

Pat, a master plumber, was co-owner of Jerry and Pat Plumbing in Spring Valley for many years. In 1984, Pat joined his son Tom's business, Action Plumbing and Heating, Inc. as a Supervisor. Besides being a key administrator, Pat used his expertise in plumbing to encourage the best quality of work. He was also employed as a building inspector for the towns of New Hempstead and Wesley Hills for over twenty-five years. Pat loved taking care of his plumbing customers and going to Beckerle Lumber and Hartel Plumbing Supply for all of the materials he needed. He proudly boasted that he would never go to "The Home Depot"!

Pat was an avid golfer and fisherman. In his younger years, he also enjoyed ocean swimming at the Jersey Shore and playing baseball with his children, nephews and nieces. During the sixties and seventies, he and Angie regularly hosted weekly family barbecues at their Spring Valley Home where he had also built an outside fireplace and a swimming pool. In his later years he enjoyed frequent trips to Atlantic City with his wife and cruising in his classic Oldsmobile!

Pat was also extremely passionate about watching NFL football from start to finish every weekend. In the spring he planted a large vegetable garden which he pampered all summer long. He quickly became famous for the best tasting tomatoes in Rockland! Dad also grew parsley and basil in a handmade greenhouse. He was an incredibly talented builder and brilliant with numbers. Pat was a self-made architect and engineer too who was extremely well respected and admired.

Pat touched the hearts of so many with his hilarious stories and sincere generosity and goodness. The family has forever memories of him cooking lobster for the traditional Italian Christmas Eve Feast, Drive-In movie night, Sunday trips to the Montvale Dairy Queen, plumbing picnics, football parties, Met games and vacations at the Jersey Shore.

Visiting will be held Wednesday from 2:00PM - 5:00PM and 7:00PM - 9:00PM at Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY. A funeral mass will be offered Thursday at 10:00AM at Sacred Heart Church, Suffern, NY. Interment to follow at Ascension Cemetery, 650 Saddle River Road, Monsey, NY 10952.

For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Pat's name to be mailed to: "The Wounded Warrior Project" at PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675 or on their website www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

Dear Uncle Pat,
I will always remember your kindness and helpfulness. You were always there for us when we called you with a plumbing problem in our condo.
You came over cheerful and ready to fix the problem (and we had quite a few) Thank you.
We will miss you very much. I know you are in heaven now with my father and at peace.
Love,
Linda, Kimberly and Jay

I'll always remember how good you were to my father when he got sick. You called him Frenchy at work. Then when we lost our daughter, you were wonderful, you couldn't do enough for us. We love you Pat and know you are in heaven. You were a good man! We pray for all your family!
