PETER BISCONTI Obituary

Dr. Peter V. Bisconti, a fifty-two year resident of Eastchester died on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, NY. Dr. Bisconti was 91 years old and living at home. Dr. Bisconti was a Diplomat in Dermatology and practiced in Teaneck, New Jersey where he was Chief of Staff at Holy Name Hospital. Dr. Bisconti was born April 18, 1912 in New York City to Ignazio and Anna Bilello Bisconti. He was educated at St. Ann's Academy in New York City. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree from New York University (Heights) in 1933, Dr. Bisconti matriculated at New York Medical College earning his Medical Degree in 1937. Dr. Bisconti did his internship at Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in New York City from 1937 to 1939. After graduation Dr. Bisconti practiced General Medicine in Seaford, New York until the start of World War II. In 1942, Dr. Bisconti volunteered through "Procurement and Assignment" in the Army of the United States and served as a surgeon on board the Queen Mary, traveling between the European Theater of Operations and the NY Port of Embarkation. Dr. Bisconti was honorably discharged from the Army of the United States as a Major in 1946. After completing military service in 1946, Dr. Bisconti and his family moved to Bronx, New York and enrolled in a Dermatological Program at "The Skin and Cancer Institution" in New York City receiving his accreditation from New York University Bellevue Medical Center in 1952. After a nine-year association with Dr. Anthony C. Cippolaro at 1070 Park Avenue, NY, Dr. Bisconti opened his own dermatological office at 741 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, New Jersey where he practiced until his retirement in 1995. Peter V. Bisconti married Helen Mary Rohan at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in New York City on September 25, 1940. Dr. Bisconti was a member of the Wykagyl Country Club and Westchester Country Club. He was a parishioner at Saint Joseph's Church in Bronxville, NY. In 1990, Dr. Bisconti and his family were chosen as The Metropolitan Golfwriter's Family of the Year. Dr. Bisconti will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his love of country, his dedication to his fellow man and his passion for the game of golf. Dr. Bisconti is survived by his son Peter V. Bisconti, Jr. and daughter-in-law Kathleen McCabe Bisconti of Mount Vernon, NY; his daughter Helen Bisconti Tobin of Pelham Manor, NY; his daughter Margaret Rohan and son-in-law William Monroe of Savannah, Georgia; his son Robert F. Bisconti and daughter-in-law Terese Butler Bisconti of Mount Vernon, NY; his daughter Virginia Grace Bisconti of Mamaroneck, NY; and his sister Margaret Hillman of New York City. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Dr. Bisconti was predeceased by his loving wife of sixty years, Helen Rohan Bisconti, on February 5, 2001 and his great-granddaughter Katherine Anne Chester of Port Washington, NY on October 19, 1992. Calling hours are 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, September 2 at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home at 20 Cedar Street, Bronxville, NY with the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church, Cedar Street, Bronxville, NY. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, NY. In lieu of flowers, friends may send donations to the Henry Street Settlement House, 265 Henry Street, New York, NY 10002 or Westchester ARC, 121 Westmoreland Avenue, White Plains, NY 10606.
