Robert G. Hurbaugh of Rye, NY and Jupiter, FL, a retired international business executive, died of complications from Parkinson's disease on Monday, November 10, 2003 at his home at Jupiter Hills, Florida. He was 76. Mr. Hurbaugh was a founding and Senior Partner of Alexander Proudfoot Company, the business consulting firm, and ran worldwide operations. He was also a leader in philanthropic and charitable work. With his wife, Patricia, Mr. Hurbaugh chaired major charity events in Palm Beach, FL. His efforts garnered significant funding for national organizations. His activities benefited causes that included the Salvation Army, Boys and Girls Clubs,
American Heart Association,
American Cancer Society, and St. Mary's/Good Samaritan Hospitals in Florida. He was a past Board member of the Palm Beach Roundtable and a Benefactor of the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach. Mr. Hurbaugh was born January 19, 1927 in Crothersville, Indiana, the son of Garland and Gladys Gresham Hurbaugh. He was a code specialist in the Navy during WWII and graduated from the University of Indiana at Bloomington where he was a member of the Acacia Fraternity. On October 10, 1953, he married his college sweetheart Patricia (Roper). Mrs. Hurbaugh died in 1999. They were residents of Palm Beach for many years. Mr. Hurbaugh's affiliations included the Westchester Country Club, Rye, NY, the Metropolitan Club and New York Athletic Club, New York City, NY, the Beach Club of Palm Beach, FL, and the PGA National Golf Club and the City Club, North Palm Beach, FL, Jupiter Hills Golf Club and Turtle Creek Country Club, Tequesta, FL. Mr. Hurbaugh will be remembered for his unique blend of exceptional intelligence, integrity, unwavering commitment, and his ability to meet people and to make them comfortable. He generously shared his vast knowledge and experience with others. He exuded gentlemanly grace and love of life, especially reveling in his enjoyment of golf, dancing and travel. He was a connoisseur of wine and fine food. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughters Lee Ann Alderton and Lisa Jo Hurbaugh; his son William R. Hurbaugh; his son-in-law Jeffrey Alderton; and five grandchildren Taylor and Bradford Alderton and Ashley, Finley and Clayton Ahearn. He was preceded in death by a brother William and a sister Joyce Lea Hurbaugh Henry. Calling hours are Thursday, November 13 from 4 PM until 7 PM at Aycock Funeral Home, 1112 Military Trail in Jupiter, FL. A Funeral Service will be offered at Aycock Funeral Home at 11 AM, Friday, November 14 with Interment following at Riverside Cemetery, Tequesta, FL.
