Jerrie Domingos Obituary

Jerrie Lavelle Patton Domingos

1931-2024

Jerrie Lavelle Patton Domingos passed away in Lompoc February 14, 2024, following a brief illness.

Jerrie was born August 27, 1931 in Clarita, Oklahoma, to Lake Charles Patton and Irene Walker Patton. The family migrated to California's Salinas Valley and later to Lompoc, where she attended Lompoc High School. She married George A. Domingos in 1948, living in Lompoc and the Santa Ynez Valley much of her life.

For more than 50 years, Jerrie was a licensed care provider for children with disabilities, and a staunch advocate for including these children in schools and in the community. She received the 2007 Jackson Award, given by the Special Needs Network to honor outstanding proponents of special needs children. She was also the organization's Woman of the Year in 1997.

A strong supporter of the Santa Barbara County Special Olympics, Jerrie was active with the Santa Ines Mission, Parent Teachers Association, and the 4-H Club.

Jerrie is survived by her children: David and Dennis Domingos both of Santa Ynez, DeeDee Goddard of Mariposa, Calif., and Deb Domingos of Kona, Hawaii. She will also be missed by her 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous foster children she cared for over the years.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, at Old Mission Santa Ines, 1760 Mission Dr., Solvang, to be immediately followed by a reception until 2 p.m. at the Mission Parish Hall. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Lompoc Cemetery, 600 S. C Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Santa Barbara County Special Olympics, the Old Mission Santa Ines (volunteer group).

Mrs. Domingos was my grandmother, Louise Artis´s good friend. Together they produced the Carousel of Cultures, an annual celebration of all races and ethnicities that was held on Martin Luther King Day in Lompoc for many years. I remember Mrs. Domingos as a kind and good person. As a kid we would have lunches with her and swim in her pool. She cared, loved and provided a safe space to many. My condolences to her family.
