Peggy Mauzy Obituary

Peggy Mauzy (Campbell, Trook), 79, of Highland Park, IL; Frederick, MD; Lansdowne, VA; Berryville, VA; and most recently, Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, after a battle with primary progressive aphasia.

Peg was born July 23, 1945, in Anderson, Indiana, daughter of the late Mark and Carmen Trook. Peg spent more than 30 years teaching at Frederick Community College (FCC) in English, Study Skills, and mysteries; proudly founded FCC's London Work Study Abroad Program and the Maryland Community College International Education Consortium, focused on providing travel opportunities to students. She also served on the Highland Park, IL school board; and worked at Sloane's Auction House in Chevy Chase, MD. She graduated from Purdue University in three years and was a member of the Phi Mu sorority. She earned a master's degree from Hood College in Frederick, MD.

She was a selfless, devoted, and loving mother and grandma to daughter, Stephanie Clark (and husband, Craig) of Mount Pleasant, SC; sons, Chad Campbell (And wife, Renae) of N. Potomac, MD, and Clark Campbell of Ashburn, VA; and five grandchildren Dylan Clark, Jack Campbell, Logan Clark, Finn Campbell, and Cole Campbell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Terry Mauzy, and sister, Patricia Burton.

Peg loved mysteries, especially Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes, and Murder She Wrote. She loved to travel, especially to London, which she visited 25 times, and enjoyed scenic drives and antique shopping. She was an avid blue and white china collector and loved to watch Cary Grant and Alfred Hitchcock movies. Her favorite activity was spending time with her family and attending her grandkids' school and sporting events.

Memorial donations may be made to The National Aphasia Association, Breakthrough T1D, formerly JDRF, or The Parkinson's Foundation.

So sorry to hear about Peggy. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

I worked at Frederick Community College the same time as Peg and our paths crossed many times as she would bring her students into the library for instruction and assistance with their assignments. I knew Peg to be very devoted to her students. Truly one of a kind who loved teaching and working with her students. The world needs more like Peggy and the world will be a little less bright without her.

My condolences to the family.
