Beloved Son, Brother, Uncle, Father, Grandfather and Husband, Richard A Hill, Sr., passed away peacefully in his home on August 2, 2024. Richard was born in Washington, DC on April 21,1935 and resided in DC, Florida and Virginia.
He loved his family most of all and enjoyed vacations and visits fishing, boating and going to Solomons Island, MD, Wilmington, NC and the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Richard had many careers in his life. He served in the Marine Reserve for 4 years. He was a Drug Store manager for 35 years and was well known around town. During that time, he also worked for the Town of Leesburg Police Department and then the Loudoun County Sheriff's Department. He loved and excelled in all his endeavors, but really found his place in the Funeral Business. He started at Colonial Funeral Home, in Leesburg, VA, and then at Hall Funeral Home in Purcellville, VA . Most rewarding to Richard was his work with Military Funeral Services. He was so honored to be able to bring Military Veterans to their final resting place in Arlington National Cemetery. He knew all of the Honor Guard personnel and the Caisson Horse teams, by name. Richard had a presence about him and a genuine caring attitude that helped so many families navigate the process. He had the best sense of humor, and a fun loving, positive attitude that rubbed off on all of those around him.
Richard will be fondly missed by his beloved wife of 50 years, Doris, his children, Julia Hill Nichols of Wilmington, NC, son Richard Hill Jr of Bluemont, VA, Shane (Linda) Hill of Wilmington, NC, Nathan (Angie) Hill of Leesburg, VA, Jesse (Natalie) Hill and Zack Hill of Fairfax VA. He also leaves behind his 2 brothers, Philip Hill of Leesburg, VA and Donald Hill of Auburndale, FL.
His Grandchildren were his greatest joy. Kate Hill of Wilmington, NC, Luke & Mason Hill of Ashburn, VA and Jesse (Olivia) Hill of Draper, UT, Jill (Dallen) Pearson of Hillsborough, VA and Wyatt, Alice and Liam Hill of Round Hill, VA along with Carson (Amy) Kinney of Ayr, NE and Owen Kinney of Leesburg, VA. Finally, Richard dearly loved his sidekick, Maggie May, his 12 year-old dog who was always by his side, along with his Grand-dogs, Red, Pax, Kona, Mazie, Lucy and Ollie.
A Celebration of Richard's life will be held at Catoctin Presbyterian Church, in Waterford, VA on August 10, 2024 at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's honor to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Ste 405, Winchester, VA 22601,
