Alice Clevenger Obituary

CLEVENGER, ALICE RENDER, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011.

She was born February 26, 1961. Spectacular wife of Dale Clevenger, mother of Patrick and Jesse Clevenger, daughter of Joyce and Ed Render.

She was a very successful musician on French Horn, having many times worked with the Chicago Symphony, she played hundreds of radio and TV commercials mostly in Chicago, but also in NYC, many Broadway shows, chamber music and music festivals and master classes. She played principal horn in Perth, Australia for a season and taught at the University of West Australia. She also taught at Roosevelt University, Chicago and will be sadly missed by her students.

Over 800 people attended the Celebration of her life held on Monday, March 28 at Christ Church, 784 Sheridan Road, at Humboldt, in Winnetka, IL.

Expressions of sympathy should be made to the American Breast Cancer Society or Susan B Koman Breast Cancer in her name.

Alice was a miracle herself of womanhood, wifeliness, motherhood, music, beauty, and the very best that God could create.

Dear Dale, Mac and Jesse - I'm so sorry to hear of our collective loss. Alice brought so much vitality, wit and wonderful irreverence to everything we did. I'll always cherish all those weird nonets we played because I got to sit next to Alice and enjoy her presence. It is a privilege that I got to know her these last few years at Marrowstone. Much love to you all,

Joe Phillips

Mr. Clevenger and family, I'm so sorry for your loss. I will remember Alice as the inspirational, effervescent teacher that made my Marrowstone experience special each time. Her warm personality, patience, strength and constant guidance helped me become a better musician, and more importantly a better person. She will be missed.

To all of Alice's family, we extend our deepest sympathies. We so admired Alice as she moved along her cancer journey, always evidencing her life force. The strength of her performance with Dale at the North Shore Senior Center, several years ago, while in the midst of treatment, was admirable. She will be sorely missed and we are so sorry to see her go.

Dear Dale, Jesse and Mac, I just heard the news today and my heart goes out to all of you. Alice brought as much vibrant energy to the Marrowstone Festival as all of the young students put together.
I'm very saddened that she won't be back and I'm especially saddened about what this loss means for you, Dale, and for your family. Jeffrey Gilliam

We will miss Alice so much. Her visits out here were always such a joy. She was and always will be an inspiration to us on how to live with great joy. Our thoughts and prayers go with you, Dale, Mack and Jesse; and to the rest of her family who she talked much about, but whom we never had the pleasure to meet.

Dear Dale,
We heard about Alice while we were here in Maui and have had you and your family in our prayers - and were so sorry we couldn't be there for her services and celebration of her life. She put up a valiant fight and always with a smile on her face and her wonderful sense of humor. She will be so missed in our church family, as well as, of course, her own family.

Alice had far too much energy to stop for Death, so it's sad for those whom she loved dearly and leaves that Death decided to stop for her and end her well fought fight against a formidable opponent. She made a meaningful difference in many lives and leaves a legacy in the community.
