Mary Jane, Tim, and Patricia: You all and DP, D3, Mike are always in my thoughts and prayers. How could you not be...I have known you all for almost 50 years. There are still a few of us left at work to regale all the newbies with tale of the days before cell phone and computers and working around the clock with DP (and cigar) captaining the weary crew! I have wonderful memories, and a grateful heart for all of them...and for all of you. May God bless you and keep you. All my love. Jane

Mary Jane and Family:
Lord only knows how DP and I became friends back in the "old days" after much squabbling over Government Contracts; of which we were on opposite sides of the fence, but we did and I'm greatful that we did become good friends. I very much appreciate him bringing me into the company after my retirement. David was a good man and very generous to lots of people, as a boss he was tough; he sometimes expected alot but he also gave alot. I will miss our get-togethers and truly will miss him as I know you will; I know he loved you all. May he rest in peace, God be with you.

I was only 26 when David first hired me to staff the Watterson Expressway project office—34 years have passed since then. By hiring me way back when, he set me on the road to the profession I love; by his example, he instilled in me a striving for quality in the work I do. While David was Work personified, he was also appreciative of those who toiled long hours in the PAI vineyards: I remember the long nights spent working against deadlines in those pre-computer days when everything was done by hand, and his hands (and that cigar) were there working along with the rest till the wee hours. Once done, he’d take the weary gang out for steak and eggs, and tell us we could come in to work a little late that morning. We didn’t because we knew he wouldn’t. And that was OK—we were a team, working together. I also recall the way he let us respond to the needs of our families—if they needed us, we could go. He trusted us to get our work done when we could, after the need was met. No questions asked. Families came first, and we were all family—as he reminded us at staff meetings and at festive gatherings that became legend over the years! With his passing, David, himself, has entered the realm of legend—the tales told of his professional genius, energy, enthusiasm, passion for perfection, and compassion will be many—and the memories engendered will be warm. My deepest sympathies to you, Mary Jane, and to Mike, D3, Tim and Patricia. There just won’t be another like DP, and as a member of his PAI family, I am grateful for having known him. I will miss him.

To DP's family and extended family:
I know how much DP loved his family, his work family, his community, and his profession. He was a really BIG person - not necessarily in physical stature, but in his presense and the enormous energy he created. He truly enriched the lives of those who came to know him, and once he decided he believed in you, you worked hard to prove yourself worthy of his trust. I appreciate how good he was to me, and how often he took the time to tell me that I was one of his favorite people. I hope he knew that he was also one of mine.

I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and prayers. The Presnell family is truely blessed to have such an extensive support system and are overwhelmed by the amount of lives that my Dad touched. I know that "Pres" is very proud of the outpoouring he received from the community - that he served for so many years. He was passionate about being an engineer and loved every minute of it. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and boss. DP will live on in all of our hearts forever.

Dearest Mary Jane and children:
I'm sadden to hear of the untimely death of David. My fondest memory of David is the day he and Tommy were showing Patricia the proper way to pull in the driveway while it is snowing, and he ended up taking down the mail box. We laughed so hard. I will miss him greatly. My prayers are with you and the family.

i was saddened to hear of david's untimely death. i have served with him on the kentucky native american heritage commission since it began in 1996. he was creative, intellegent, and kind. along with the other members of the long-range planning committee, david laid out an ambitious agenda for the commission that continues to guide our work. i am so sorry he will not see the plans he helped lay for the native american cultural center in carroll county come to fruition. david presnell left his mark on his community, and his contributions will not soon be forgotten. i extend my deepest sympathy to his family and his closest friends. i know you miss him very much.

David was a sincere friend and inspiration to me. We enjoyed many good times together on the tennis court and around the business table. Just a few weeks ago, both he and Mary Jane were here in Florida with us renewing our friendship and it was as if no time had passed since we had seen each other even though it had been years. His memory of events and recall of anecdotes was phenomenal and he always was of good cheer and a privilege to be with. He and Mary Jane certainly made a wonderful team together.
David's generosity and helpful spirit touched me personally early in my career for which I was ever grateful. He will always be with us in our hearts. We want Mary Jane and family to know that we are there with them in our thoughts and prayers.
With Deepest Sympathy,

How truly sorry I am at the loss that you both are feeling. I wish that there was some way that I could ease your pain. Know that since I cannot, I will pray that God lifts this heavy burden. Remember that Jesus had help carrying his cross to Calvary. Look around there are people who will help carry this 'cross' with you. Blessings to you both.
