Herbert Earp Obituary

Herbert M. Earp Sr., 51, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2003, at University of Louisville Hospital. He was a native of Montgomery, AL, a retired national sales representative for Vanity Fair and at the time of his death, was a self-employed landscaper. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Assumption Catholic Church and in the Coast Guard Reserve during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his family: his companion, Timothy A. Koons; two daughters, Sarah L. Grant and Kaitlin J. Koons; son, Bert M. Earp Jr.; parents, Joseph and Tiel Earp Sr.; three brothers, Joseph Earp Jr., Mike Earp and James Earp; and one granddaughter, Ramsay L. Grant. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 443 South 5th St. There will be no visitation. He will be cremated. Memorial contributions may be made to Florida State University Scholarship Fund, 1903 Ivan Dr., Tallahassee, FL, 32303

When I think of Bert I think of laughter and good times. The irony is that I worked for Bert for several years. He was the kindest man with an overabundance of common sense and a tender heart.

My heart has been aching for several days. He and his family will remain in my prayers for many months to come.

To Bert's Family:

I know that what I say here will not alter the situation, but my words are said with heartfelt love and sincerity. Bert was an extraordinary person who was kind and loving. He always made everyone feel at ease and at home whether it was at work or in his own home. I'll always remember Bert, Tim and I rooting for the Kentucky Wildcats amongst all those Louisville Cardinal fans at the basketball parties in their home.

I had the good fortune of working with Bert for many years as he solely handled my account when he was the Vanity Fair Rep. Bert and I have had many great laughs over the years and a few cries. I know almost all of the Earp family and they are one of the best. Bert was a special man. I only met Tim once, at Sarah's wedding. Mike is one of my best friends. I love seeing the Earp, Sr.'s at FSU baseball games. My heart goes out to the entire family. Ryals.
