James Vogt Obituary
Vogt, James Grandville Jr.,
of Jeffersonville, IN passed away, Monday, April 24, 2017 at Jewish Hospital surrounded by family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29 at Faith Lutheran Church, 2014 Allison Lane, Jeffersonville. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday followed by a Masonic Memorial Service at Scotts Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville.
Jim was born in Louisville on November 30, 1927 to the late James G. and C. Elizabeth Vogt. He attended Manual High School and entered into the United States Coast Guard where he proudly served his country in the East Coast Corridor. After the Coast Guard, he attended Georgetown College in Lexington, KY and later served as a Sargent in the US Army Reserves. He began employment at the Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison, IN. followed by Naval Ordnance Station in Louisville as a technician on several naval gun mounts where he retired. He was an avid Ham Radio operator (K9QWJ). He volunteered as Cub Scouts Pack Leader at Middle Road School and Boy Scouts Troup Leader. He was a member of the Kilwinning Masonic Lodge for over 25 year, where he worked his way up as Grand Master and was also a member of the Scottish Rite and Kosiar Shriners of Louisville. He enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, working on cars and traveling.
Jim is survived by his wife Nancy of 68 years, son James III (Sharion) Vogt, of Jeffersonville; daughter Katherine (Chris) Kinnett of Evansville; John (Gwen) Vogt of Portsmouth, VA; David Vogt of Baltimore, MD; Steven (Katherine) Vogt of Floyds Knobs; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
