I was saddened to hear that Brother Herndon had died, and my prayers go out for the family at such a great loss. As a child I was under his care at Spring Meadows, and have fond memories of this fine and dedicated man. We all have so much to thank him for. I can't imagine the number of lives he has influenced.

To the Herndon Family - our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Brother Herndon played a signficant role in our lives. He was the pastor of our wedding and "gave away the bride" (Phyllis Shelby-1963). I recall that he called me at college one evening after learning that Phyllis & I planned to elope...he talked us out of it and into a formal wedding...the first ever for Spring Meadows. We are forever grateful for his guidance and encouragement.
I know he was very proud of Phyllis and her educational accomplishments. She earned two masters and a doctorate and currently serves as superintendent of Oak Hill Schools in Oak Hill, OH. Brother Herndon greatly influenced Phyllis to achieve and succeed.
His memory will be with us always.

Dear Family,
Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you. We were not able to make it to the funeral home to express our sympathy in person. Please know of our deep appreciation for J. D.'s life and ministry. Bro. Herndon participated in our wedding, helped me (Stan), to get my first pastorate (in Nelson Association), as well as preaching my ordination sermon (Stan). He was a good friend and mentor. Bro. Herndon also served as interim pastor at my home church (Leigh Ann - Buck Grove Bapt. in Meade Co. - where my mother (Linda) served as secretary). He has meant alot to our family. We appreciate all he has done for us, for our family, for our association (Nelson), and for the Kentucky Baptist Convention (especially the Children's Homes). Bro. J. D. will be greatly missed. May God's grace and peace be with you all.
Love,
Stan and Leigh Ann (Miller) Lowery
