Mike, I had no idea, and Byron just saw the news and informed us. We are terribly sorry. Matt helped us in so many ways. Both our boys are just sick with the news. God bless you and your family.

I would like to add this post to what I have already posted. Today when I came to the funeral home to view Matt and give respects to the family, I was blown away with what I saw and experienced. I arrived at 1:20 and there were at least 150 people in front of me not counting the ones who had already gone through and the ones after I left. When I looked at the mix of people who came to give their last respects, it was easy to see how many lives Matt impacted such as myself and my family. I know Matt will be greatly missed, but feel assured while on this earth, Matt left a very large footprint that will never be forgotten.

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Matt was so professional, kind, supportive and just a good guy when he coached my children. The world has suffered a loss, but nothing compares to his family's loss, for which I am deeply sorrowful. I am so glad to have crossed his path, even briefly.

Matt gave batting lessons to two of my sons, Trey and Mason. Matt was so well-liked and respected that I would bring my teams for group lessons. Other than the fact he did an outstanding job with the teaching piece of how to hit, I brought them so they could be exposed to how polite, respectful, positive, and caring Matt was to all of those he came in contact with during those sessions. I always told my boys when would get in the car to leave that Matt was an example of how I want them to grow up and treat people. His parents and family should be proud. We loved him and he will be painfully missed.

Our family has know Matt and the Baldwin family for about 31 years. There are many fine memories with baseball and the Middletown Recreation Association (MRA)Baseball program. Our son Gary and Matt played on many regular season and All Star teams together and Matt was a fine and outstanding young man who enjoyed baseball, life and family. I know Matt will be greatly missed. We are all thankful that life gives us memories of the past that we carry with us throughout our lives. Matt is now in a place where there are not any imperfections or pain, but a place where there is always joy and greatness.

I didn't know Matt well. I met him through my son-in-law, Denny Williams, who cared deeply for his dear friend. I understand that Matt was spiritually ready to meet his Savior. And I know that Jesus met Matt at the gates of Heaven where there is no suffering or pain. And all of those who love Matt will be with him again.
