Sheri Kalbfleisch Obituary
Louisville - It is with great sadness that we announce that Dr. Sheri Kalbfleisch passed away on October 10th, 2020 after a sudden diagnosis of cancer. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Gladys and Andrew Sauer and her beloved sister Dee Ann Totten. She leaves behind her wonderful soulmate Paul- there is no love as wonderful as this after 47 years of marriage. He was always at her side. She also leaves behind her loving family including her sister Jan Richardson (Jim), nephew Brad Richardson, nephew Doug Richardson (Blair), niece Dr. Kim Bambach (Sven), nephew Tim Day, sister in law Judy Huber (Kenny), niece Stacy Vissing (Greg), niece Leslie, niece Angie Huber, and nephew Chris Huber (Trish). She also loved her dog Bentley so much!
She felt her life's mission was as a wife and as a caregiver to her family and patients after practicing for 38 years.
She was a community leader and her life was filled with accolades. She received numerous Mercy High School awards, was American Medical Association MD of the year, a part time clinical instructor of Dermatology at University of Louisville, past President of KY Dermatology, and past President of the Greater Louisville Medical Society. She loved the University of Louisville cardinals and traveled the world with her alumni friends. A special thanks to her secretary of more than 30 years Georgia Vincent without whom she felt her practice would not have been successful. We also want to sincerely thank all of her patients for their years of loyalty and trust.
In lieu of flowers please send donations in her honor to University of Kentucky Healthcare, Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center, PO Box 34184, Lexington, KY, 40588.
Due to COVID-19 we are not having a viewing or reception. A mass will be held at St. Brigid 1520 Hepburn Ave, Louisville, KY 40204 at 10 a.m, Wednesday, October 14, 2020. Please wear a mask if you choose to attend the
mass. There will be a private burial.

Sheri was one of my closest friends during our UofL years. Later she became my dermatologist, but visiting her office was more like catching up with a friend. I don't know of anyone who disliked Sheri. I still miss her, especially at UofL games.

It was so sad when in January I tried to make another appointment with my friend, Dr. Shari, and found out she passed away last October. What a shock! I first went to her in 1987 when she found my melanoma. The last time I saw her was last year, and with my being in the music business, she started singing "Chapel of Love". I then joined her in harmony and her patients in the waiting room could hear us singing. We blended nicely! She was so wonderful and so beautiful. I often told her how much he looked like the movie star, Ava Gardner. I will certainly miss her forever. She was such a good doctor and always so nice. May God bless her soul and take care of her and her loved ones she has left behind. She will never be forgotten!

I just today learned of your passing and heaven sure did gain an amazing and beautiful person....on the inside and out.... I will always treasure you and Paul coming to my work dinners but even more so the love and friendship you gave me during my divorce....

Dr. Sheri was a dedicated professional and a kind human being who loved her family and her patients. I have been a regular patient for more than a decade and I always enjoyed our conversations about her farm, family, dog and of course UofL sports. She always had time to talk and make you feel special. I always enjoyed our appointments and will miss her dearly.

I just learned of her death, and am deeply grieved. We were classmates at ULSOM, and trained together as
medical interns, and as Dermatology residents. She was like a sister and compatriot for 8 years, both finishing
in 1982. Paul was a most supportive, kind, and loving husband. I cannot imagine his loss, and pray for his
comfort. I am grateful this Thanksgiving day for having known her and shared in her life.

I called this morning November 11, 20200 Veterans Day to get an emergency appointment because I have a growth that's come up on my arm. I was shocked and devistated to hear the message that she passed away October 10th. I am in shock! She was not only a doctor she was a friend! She asked me on one visit if I had any inside knowledge (because she was aware of my intuitive abilities) if I knew anything about what caused the giant fire at the GE Warehouse in Louisville Ky ? I pulled up a picture on my phone and showed it to her. Someone had photoshopped a giant Godzilla right in the middle of the smoke and flames stomping on the building, she laughed so hard I didn't think she was going to be able to work on me ! She will truly be missed rest in peace extraordinary healer and kind sweet lady! Fly high! May God's peace and love comfort her husband with whom I shared ufo stories! Have faith we will see her again!

Dr. Kalbfleisch was an AMAZING HUMAN BEING! She was my doctor for years and she was EXCELLENT at her craft! I always loved her because she wasn't just my doctor but she cared about me so much that I will always see her as a FRIEND! I loved to come in to her practice to be welcomed by her wonderful dog and her FABULOUS husband, who I could always tell ABSOLUTELY adored and loved her! Dr. Kalbfleisch had an amazing memory and a kind heart. She practiced medicine to a varied population with total dedication well beyond when most professionals retire. My significant other Suzanne Hurst was a friend and was with her when she met Paul at a dance at Whispering Hills. We both admired and respected her greatly. I along with my friend David have been weekly patients and have grown to know and care for both Paul and Sheri. She always showed concern and compassion for me as a person as well as a patient. I will miss seeing her. As she would say “Go Cards”.

Sheri was one of my best friends when we were students at UofL. We kept in touch because she was also my dermatologist. We last spoke in March. She told me she would love to take me to lunch. How I wish we had arranged that lunch. I loved Sheri, her bubbly personality, her smile, her positive attitude. She was always so interested in my life. She was a friend who seemed to me to have no faults at all. I will miss you, Sheri.

When I heard the news about Dr. Kalbfleisch passing, my whole body went numb. I mean, when you go to the same skin doctor for 25+ years, it's just so hard. She was one of the last true doctor's in this town, the kind where you would go to her for an annual skin cancer check, and then she spent 30 minutes giving you a good, thorough, exam, then spend another 45 minutes just talking about life, her family, your family, and whatever else she felt like talking about that day. On my last visit in January of 2020, I made her promise me she would send a letter to her patients telling us what doctor to go to when she retired. She then mentions she had no plans to retire any time soon, even at 73! Sheesh! There will never be another skin doctor like her.....never! God bless, Dr. Kalbfleisch. I will remember you forever and always cherish your healing touch. A huge loss!

My wife and I started going to her just a few years ago and we’re extremely fond of her as our doctor, but even more we considered her a friend who was so pleasant and easy to deal with. I was shocked to see Dr. Sheri's obit in the C-J. She was more than a doctor to me; she was a friend. My last appointment with her was in July, when she was as vibrant as always. As usual, we chatted about mutual interests and our personal lives. My heartfelt condolences go to Paul and entire family, and Bentley. I just cannot believe that she is no longer with us.
