TEWKSBURY - Mrs. Bernice L. "Bernie" (Doucette) Lynch, age 89, an active member of Tewksbury's Senior Community, died unexpectedly Friday, January 4, at Lowell General Hospital, after suffering an apparent Stroke at her home on New Years day. She was the beloved wife of George W. Lynch, who died in 1988.

Bernie was born in Medford, one of eight children of the late Joseph and Mary (Deveau) Doucette, and lived there for the first seven years of her life. Her family moved to Wilmington in 1938, where she remained until 1993. After spending six years in Florida, she returned to Tewksbury in 1999, and had lived in the Delaney Drive - Flucker Heights community since her return.

Never idol in her retirement, Bernie became an active member at the Tewksbury Senior Center with the Golden Age Club, the Tewksbury Red Hat Society, as an accomplished shooter and multi-team member of the Center's Pool Leagues, served as a delivery driver for Merrimack Valley Elder Council's Meals-On-Wheels project in town, and a participant of many daily activities and trips with her numerous friends. She will be remembered for her efforts as a volunteer, her warm and friendly outlook, and ever present smile.

She was also a devout Catholic woman, in her early years at St. Dorothy's in Wilmington, and in later years, at St. William's in Tewksbury as a Eucharistic Minister and member of Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality.

She leaves a twin sister, Beatrice Yankowski of FL; many nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by her siblings, Jim Doucette, Albert Doucette, Theresa Smeltzer, Celeste Luccier Agnes Mary Monagle and Marguerite Hanson.

I enjoyed playing pool / billiards with Bernice. She was an accomplished pool player and had many friends in the various leagues in the Tewksbury area. She was always smiling and cheerful towards everyone. She had many stories to tell and was also a good listener. She was quick to laugh and also quick to shoot her next shot at the pool table.

I am saddened at the death of Bernie. She was a a wonderful and caring person. I will remember her most from her time at St Dorothy's Church where for some years she was Director of their CCD Program. May she rest in our dear Savior's loving arms.R.I.P Bernie, you will be missed.
