Edward Machado Obituary

Edward Machado 70 year Lowell resident; 71 Lowell Edward Machado, 71, of Dracut, died Oct. 15, at Massachusetts General Hospital after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was the husband of Delores (DeFreitas) Machado, with whom he was married for 48 wonderful years. Born Sept. 1, 1936, in Lowell, he was a son of the late Manuel, and the late Bertha (Vieira) Machado. He spent the first 70 years of his life living in Lowell, before he and his wife moved to Dracut where they lived with their daughter, Chris, and her family. Mr. Machado was a lifetime parishioner of St. Anthony's Church, where he was a member of St. Vincent DePaul. He served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister. He also taught CCD for many years, and donated his time and talents to help build the classrooms where CCD is now held. He retired as an engineer from Raytheon after 35 dedicated years of employment. After his retirement he worked at Panametrics. Until his death, he remained close friends with many of his former co-workers. He loved to golf and was a longtime member of "The Hackers and Wackers", a wonderful group of people, who are more recognized for their love of life and close friendships than their golfing abilities. Mr. Machado had a great sense of humor and was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed following all of the local sports teams. As a younger man, he coached baseball for the Shedd Park Little League. As he raised his family, he volunteered many hours as a coach, and board member for the Highland Little League. During this time, he was also a member of The Highland Players where he developed many close friendships. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a caring father and a loving grandfather. He truly treasured the time he spent with his family, especially the time he spent with his eight grandchildren who were a great source of joy and pride. Besides his wife, Delores, he is survived by three children; Larry Machado and his wife, Trisha, Chris Gordon and her husband, Todd, all of Dracut, and Mary Crockett and her fiance, Tim Hills, of Lowell, eight grandchildren; Emily, James, and Billy Machado of Dracut, Jacob and Stephanie Santos and Isabele Gordon of Dracut, and Eddie and Cameron Crockett of Lowell; six brothers and sisters, John Machado, Joseph Machado, Virginia Coviello, and her husband, Tony, Roselyn Machado, Rose Lorenzo and her husband, Frank, Dorothy Brown and her husband, Herb, a brother and sister in law; John and Pat DeFreitas, a brother in law, Victor Sousa, a sister in law, Irene DeFreitas, and many, many close friends and extended family. He was also the brother of the late Mary Sousa, brother in law of the late Teresa Machado and the late Joseph DeFrietas. MACHADO Edward. Hi Eddie: It's hard to believe that on October 15, 2008 you will have been gone for a year. We all miss you so much. Paula got married on September 27th. Can you believe that! She had the disc jockey play YMCA in your memory and all the guests got up and formed a circle and sang their hearts out, I bet you heard us. Delores got in the middle of the circle and was happy that Paula requested that in your memory. We think of you every day and miss you very much..See you soon. Virginia

Mr. Machado was my Father-in-law. He was like a father to me and I viewed him as such even though I'm close to my own father. My regret is that I did not tell him. The world is a little darker with him gone. He was one of a kind and I loved his humor and his amazing patients with EVERYONE he came in contact with. Words can not express how I feel.
I love you Mr.M.

I'll miss everything about my Dad, but his wisdom and sense of humor are the things I'll miss the most. He was the first person I brought questions to, and the first I wanted to share good things with. Every day is hard now, but the memories that sneak up on me make me smile. we were all so lucky to know him.

I will miss the secret handshake I had with Uncle Eddie that I thought no one else knew. I will miss the silly, straight faced conversations about nothing that could go on for an hour. I will miss dancing the "YMCA". I still think I was really his "favorite" niece! Love and Prayers to Aunt Delores, Larry, Chris, Mary and all the family.

My condolences to the Machado family. I worked with Ed at Raytheon for several years and will always have great memories of the comraderie that we all enjoyed. We used to tell each other jokes and always had an understanding that they would not be off-color. His sense of humor often helped in getting thru the day and when he worked at Panametrics we still called each other to tell the latest "groaners". It was obvious that he loved his family and greatly enjoyed being a Grandfather. We will all miss him, but the memories will remain.

In 1966, when I started work in Sudbury, Eddie was there to guide me. When we both were sent to the MIT Instrumentation Lab in 1970, Eddie was there to help on the Trident project. When we quit work at night, Eddie was there to whop me at tennis . When we winter weekened in New Hampshire, Eddie was there to climb the mountain and ride the horses and drink the beer. Delores, our sincere condolences. I will deeply miss him.

Machado family,
I am very sorry for your loss. Going through my own loss of my mother in August I understand your pain. Mr Machado was one my my CCD teachers whom I always remmbered as being fair and understanding. It was shocking to me to see him in Church looking so much thinner than I remembered him growning up. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you pass the long difficult road ahead.
