Herb was more than just a great student. He brought energy, enthusiasm, and genuine warmth into the classroom every day. Based on what I saw in Londonderry last week, it’s clear that an entire town won't be the same without him, and LMU certainly won't be the same, either.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Darling,
I am so sorry to hear of Herbert's passing. Over the past 3 years straitening Herbert's teeth we were fortunate to see him monthly and enjoyed his warm, caring personality. He was always so happy and positive we all looked forward to seeing him each month and then when he returned from college to hear about his enjoyment there. Herbert,

You were truly one of those rare individuals who made an impact on everyone you met. I only knew you through my sister, but you immediately impressed me as an exceptional human being. I became immediately attached to you and just truly liked you. You were such a genuinely good person; for instance, you volunteered to help my sister and I while we were moving her back into the dorms, just because we needed the extra hands. I thought that spoke so much to your character. I liked you so much and always loved being around you. You were smart, fun, funny, open, kind and insightful beyond your years. I am glad to have met you. I am keeping your family in my thoughts.
