Wells, ME

Joseph G. Casper, age 86, of Moody, ME died October 8, 202 at his home. He was born in Lowell, Mass on June 15, 1936, the son of Joseph and Ann Casper.

He was predeceased by his mother Ann (Metcavitch) Casper in October 2006. He is survived by his two brothers Michael P. Casper and his wife Christine, Robert C. Casper and his wife Denise, a sister Ann Marie Casper, nephews: Michael D Casper and his wife Cathy, Scott Casper, Matthew Casper and his wife Melissa, nieces: Colleen Casper, Cynthia Bourque and her husband Gary, Tiffany Bilodeau and many great nephews and nieces.

He attended St. Peter's Elementary School in Lowell, and was a graduate of Keith Academy. My Casper then attended and graduated from Lowell State College. He also received a Master's Degree from Fitchburg State College; and also accumulated 30 credits beyond his Master's Degree.

Following, Mr Casper first taught in Tyngsboro, Mass at the Winslow School for two years; then at the Shaughnessy School for eight years; and finally at the James S. Daley Jr. High - Middle School for 27 years.

He was a member and officer in several organizations: namely the Elementary Teachers Club, Treasurer for the Lowell Teachers Organization for several years, and President of the Lowell State College Alumni Association in 1961.

Mr. Casper lived in Lowell until 1984. In that year a home was purchased in Moody, Maine where he spent weekends and summers until 1994, when he retired, and moved to Maine permanently.

His passion was traveling. In the 70's and 80's he took an 80 day tour around the world, he also toured most of Europe, much of Asia and North Africa, several times. Other interests were; interior design, gardening, and crossword puzzles.

After retirement, Mr. Casper worked for two summers in the Ogunquit Playhouse box office, where he also did some bookkeeping. After which he managed and did the front desk at the Midway Motel in Wells.

Visiting hours will be from 12pm until 2pm on Saturday October 15, 2022 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Rd, Wells. His graveside prayer service will take place Monday, October 17, 2022 at 12 Noon at Saint Mary Cemetery, 90 River, Tewksbury, MA 01876.

I was a student teacher with Mrs. Ross (7th grade English) at the Daley School in 1974. Being a traveler myself, I enjoyed talking with him in the teacher´s room about his travels in many exotic countries. He told me that he found India to be the most fascinating place he had visited at that time. He was a strict but very well liked Math teacher; especially suited to working with middle school students. My brother Mark had him for Math at the Daley and once respectfully pointed out a rare error Mr. Casper had made in solving a problem on the blackboard. Without any fuss, Mr. Casper checked his own work, corrected the error-and thanked Mark for being attentive enough to find it. He may have even done it on purpose just for that reason! That´s the kind of person and teacher he was. May this good man enjoy eternal peace forever.

To the Casper family, I had Mr Casper in the 7th grade (7-2) for math! He was strictly but fair! You knew the math you needed to matriculate into the eighth grade! Everyone always knew something was wrong when he took his fingernails and ran them up and down the blackboard... May his soul rest in heavenly peace.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Mr Casper (Joe). He was my 8th grade homeroom and math teacher at the Daley School. He was an excellent math teacher and educator.
I have copies of the Keith Academy Class graduation photos and have attached his Keith Academy Class graduation photo.
My Dad ( Joe Regan Sr) was one of the first lay (Math and Latin) teachers at Keith Academy and had Joe Casper as a student.
I will keep Mr. Casper and the Family in my prayers.

Mr. Casper was a tough teacher, but I suppose you had to be dealing with 7th and 8th graders at their wildest age.
I am happy he had love, and a life well-lived full of travel and leisure.
May he rest in peace now with his dear companion Robert MacDonald who passed away on August 19, 2022.
