Leonard Pollard Obituary

Leonard W. 'Pete' Pollard Retired Lowell Police Officer; 65 DRACUT Mr. Leonard W. "Pete" Pollard, a resident of Dracut, aged 65 years, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at a local hospital. A Vietnam veteran of the United States Navy. He was the husband of Margaret (Milinazzo) Pollard, they celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on December 12th of last year. He was born in Lowell, on Oct. 27, 1941, the son of the late Ernest V. and Helen (MacPhail) Pollard. He received his early education in the Lowell school system, and was a graduate of Lowell High School with the Class of 1958. "Pete" enlisted in the United States Navy, Jan. 29, 1959, and served aboard the U.S.S. T.J. Gary, U.S.S. Alt, and U.S.S. Camp out of Quonset, R.I., during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged in March of 1962. After returning from the service, he became associated with H.E. Fletcher Granite of Westford, and then the Lowell Water Department, he became appointed to the Lowell Police Department, as a patrolman on April 20, 1975. During his distinguished career in law enforcement, he received many citations, among them he was awarded the TOP COP Honorable Mention Award in 1994, at a ceremony in Washington D.C. attended by Vice President Al Gore. After charging into a dark house and saving an 11-month-old baby being choked by an intruder. He was honored along with his fellow partner officer David Seamans for their bravery. He served honorably for 25 years, retiring April 1, 2000. "Pete" loved to play cards with family and friends, and enjoyed reading. According to family members, "Pete" was also an avid Patriots fan. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by four daughters and two sons, Wendy B. Pollard, Sean L. Pollard and his wife, Catherine and Melonie J. Pollard, all of Methuen, Leonard W. Pollard and his wife, Cheryl of Lowell, Tara A. Pollard and her husband, William D. Gage of Ashburnham, Mass., and Stacy A. Pollard of Fitchburg. Nine grandchildren, Alex Mugo, Sean P. Pollard, Thomas E. Pollard, Alyson L. Pollard, Andrew W. Pollard, Kaylie E. Gage, William D. Gage, John T. Gage, and Jason K. Hull. One brother, Robert E. Pollard of Tyngsboro, a sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and James Rogers of Dracut; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves many dear friends. POLLARD Died in Lowell, Leonard W. Friends will be received at the MORSE-BAYLISS FUNERAL HOME, 122 Princeton Blvd. at Chester and Harvard Sts. on Monday from 3-7 P.M. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday 10:00 A.M. at Christ Church United, 10 Arlington St., Dracut, MA. Friends invited. Very Sorry to here of this. I knew Pete to be the very best examples of what a "Family Man" is all about. He was a great provider and a solid Example to his Sons and Daughters. And a devoted Husband. There just wasn't enough fine men like him in the world i grew up in.
