Paul Baker Obituary

DRACUT- On Tuesday, February 16, 2021, Paul Baker, of Dracut passed away peacefully at the age of 83 following complications of heart surgery at Tufts Medical Center.

Born in Lowell, on October 25, 1937 he was the son of Franklin and Helena (Lajoie) Baker. He attended Dracut Public Schools, and was a member of the National Guard and served in the 26th Yankee Division. He was employed with Boston and Maine Railroad and later Amtrak for 36 years. He was married to Brenda (Molleur) Baker and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 2nd.

Paul was blessed with 22 years of retirement filled with much joy and laughter. Paul's passions in life were numerous. First and foremost was the time he spent with his family. Paul's favorite place was Wells, Maine. His family and friends will cherish the many memories created at the condo and beach. Paul was known for his ability to repair anything from lawn mowers to trains. Paul loved a good challenge and enjoyed repairing snow blowers that people were throwing out to the many hairdryers from his daughters and granddaughters. He loved working in his garden and was always looking for ways to outsmart the woodland creatures that would attempt to eat his vegetables. With his latest obsession being a gopher who was determined to eat his pumpkins and cucumbers.

Paul is survived and greatly missed by his wife Brenda, his daughters and their spouses: Paula and Raymond Barrett, Karen Baker O'Brien and Colin O'Brien, and Colleen and Raymond Merrill, and his 5 grandchildren: Christopher Merrill and his partner Yuanyu Chen, Rebecca Merrill, Emily Barrett and her partner Michael Duchesne, Meaghan O'Brien, and Kaleigh O'Brien. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Hoyt, his nephew Michael Hoyt and niece Sharon Laliberte. He was predeceased by his parents, brother-in-law Reginald Hoyt, and his Goddaughter Debra Hoyt Boilard.

BAKER - At Paul's request, there will be no visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Paul's Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Monday, February 22nd at 10:30am at St. Francis Church, 115 Wheeler Rd. in Dracut followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford. Absolutely the greatest neighbor ever!!! Mr.Baker always had time to fix anything that was broken. I can't begin to imagine the money he saved us on lawnmowers alone through the years. Mr. Baker thank you for everything you will be missed!!!

I worked with Paul for over 30 years on the Railroad. He was a real gentleman and well respected by all of us that had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a very good mechanic and loved a challenge. Thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Please accept our deepest sympathy. We will miss Paul so very much, miss seeing him go to his storage at The Elmwood where his condo is, he was always tinkering and fixing anything that was less than perfect. Kenny will miss their talks and I will always think of relish when I think of Paul, he loved my zucchini relish so much he used to hide it in the fridge. It won't be the same not seeing your smiling face Paul. We feel blessed that we were lucky to have known you. Our love and thoughts are with Brenda and the rest of the family.
