Paul DeGrandis Obituary
BALTIMORE, MD - Rev. Paul Robert "Fr. Bob" DeGrandis, SSJ, age 86, a resident of Baltimore, MD and former resident of New Orleans, LA died Monday August 6, 2018 at Sunny Acres Nursing home in Chelmsford, MA
He was born in Dracut on January 28 1932, and was a son of the late Leo A. and Mary Elizabeth (Mosa) DeGrandis. He was a graduate of St. Michael Grammar School and Keith Academy, both in Lowell. He was a longtime Boy Scout and proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Upon Fr. Bob's graduation from Keith Academy he entered into the seminary for the Society of St. Joseph. In 1959 he was ordained in the Josephite Order at the National Shrine in Washington, DC. On June 14, 1959 he celebrated his first Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell. He served the Worldwide Catholic Charismatic Renewal Community in full-time ministry since 1979. His central message of God's love and the power of forgiveness has been brought to little gatherings in country churches to national stadiums.
Father Bob has contributed to the growth of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal through teaching, leadership training, and healing services across the United States and in more than 35 countries throughout the world.
He is survived by a sister Dorothea (DeGrandis) Sudol of Lowell, MA, a nephew Stephen A. Sudol and his wife MaryJoof Dracut, and a niece, Kathleen M. Messenheimer and her husband William R. of Ft. Myers, FL. He was also the brother of the late F. Gloria Silin.
The family of Fr. DeGrandis would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Sunny Acres Nursing home for their wonderful and compassionate care.
DEGRANDIS - Fr. DeGrandis will lie in state on Thursday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at St. Francis Church in Dracut followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at the church. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fr. Degrandis' memory to Beacon Hospice, 290 Merrimack St., Suite 242, Lawrence, MA 01843 or to the Society of St. Joseph, 911 West Lake Ave., Baltimore, MD 21210. I received healing from lymphatic cancer during a Charismatic Healing service celebrated at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, in Houston, Texas. Fr. Bob DeGrandis officiated healing prayers over me in 1991. I was 17 years old at the time. Today I am 50 years old. I have continued to receive blessings with remaining cancer free since the day we met. I thank God for my healing and for bringing Fr. Bob DeGranis into my life. I will continue to pray that God offers great mercy on Fr. DeGrandis soul. May he rest in eternal peace and love.

My husband Chuck and I attended a Charismatic retreat in Michigan conducted by Father DeGrandis. He taught us about the gifts of the Holy Spirit and encouraged us to receive the gifts and use them to spread the Kingdom of God. My husband has the gift of healings his prominent gift. My prominent gift is teaching . I have Father DeGrandis' books and use them when teaching in our prayer group. I thank God for Father DeGrandis. "Father DeDrandis please pray for us."

I attended my first Healing Mass at Lakemba, a suburb of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia in the late 1980's and I was overcome by the Holy Spirit from the time I entered the church. What a powerful and wonderful initiation into the Charismatic Renewal! I am so blessed to have experienced his ministry and his teaching through his many books. Thank you Fr Bob.

Today is Thursday, November 20, 2019.
I was thinking about Father DeGrandis and googled his name and learned of his passing in 2018. I live in Hoover, AL and married the only Italian, Catholic in the state of Alabama in 1971 per my Daddy! Father DeGrandis was the priest that married this country girl to a city boy on September 1, 1971. Fr. was friends with my brother who was involved in the Charismatic Renewal at the time and involved with The Full Gospel Business Mens Fellowship in Alabama. Its a long story but here I was about to marry a Catholic and had been raised in a Pentecostal church. Both our families were certainly concerned about our getting married.
My husband had never met Father DeGrandis and we both had meetings with him before we married. I had met him at some charismatic services. We had to get special permission from the Diocese for him to marry us at my brothers house. So both families compromised. I continued to go to all the healing services and retreats where he was the speaker in and around the Birmingham, AL area.
He was a great man of God in my opinion.
I wrote all of the above to say we are still married, 48 years. I have thought of Father DeGrandis many times over the years after he left Birmingham. My husband kept in contact with him a few times through the years but we did not know he had passed away.
Thank you for being such an inspiration to me when I was a very young woman. You were truly a blessing to thousands of people.
I was sad to read of your death but rejoice in knowing you are in your Heavenly home and my husband, children and grandchildren will see you again when we all are together in our eternal home. Loving thoughts to his family.

I had the pleasure of working with Father many times during the 6 1/2 years that I was the organist for the Saturday vigil mass at Holy Rosary church in Galveston Texas. One of his favorite songs was the 8 fold Alleluia. Every time I hear that song I think of him. He also loved the Battle Hymn of the Republic for entrance. I can still see him smiling and singing Glory Glory Hallelujah as he walked up the aisle. I learned so much from him. I feel so fortunate to have known him so well. He was a kind and loving man and I look forward to singing with him again one day. Thank you sir for all you taught me and most of all for all your patience with me as I learned the songs you liked. Somehow the Forgiveness Prayer found its way to my eyes. I used it in our women's prison ministry and it was impactful to them but mostly to me. Went looking for you and found your obit. We had a prayer meeting at my local parish, St. Matthew the Apostle, in River Ridge Louisiana. One Wed night in 1981, we had a guest priest, Fr. Robert DeGrandis. I had never heard of him, but the church had 200 people in attendance instead of the usual 20. What a night that was for me. In spite of not believing in healing prayer, I was instantaneously healed of hypoglycemia. Later after mass was over I attended a tongues workshop in our cry room and received the gift of tongues. Then I got in line to be anointed with oil by Father and rested in the Spirit even though I tried with all my might to remain standing. I thought I died and went to heaven! That was the beginning of a wonderful relationship with Jesus. I attended multiple meetings, workshops, and retreats with Fr. DeGrandis and consider him one of my spiritual mentors. What a wonderful man of God! How many thousands of nobodies like me did he make somebodies in Jesus! And the ripple effect will continue for generations. Thank you Lord for introducing yourself to me through your good and faithful servant, Fr. Robert DeGrandis.

I am Eternally grateful for the life and ministry of Fr. DeGrandis. I was blessed to sit under his teaching for many years, and I have used the Forgiveness Prayer in ministry for over twenty years. The powerful witness Fr. DeGrandis was in preaching that "God is Love" and "Forgiveness is a decision, not a feeling" changed my life and the lives of countless others around the world. I was very sorry to hear of Fr. Bob's passing. I attended many healing and charismatic services he led during the early 2000's, and he was a wonderful priest and teacher and one of the pillars of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. I will never forget this wonderful Priest! I went to one of his healing services in Orlando Florida with my husband who at the time was skeptical that God would work in the way that He did thru Father De Grandis.After attending this healing service my husband no longer doubted.!!! We witnessed the most incredible miracles specially a little girl sitting next to us who regained her sight; plus many many more miracles!!!!!!! Our condolences to Fr Bob's sister Dorothea and to Fr Bob's family. This is a huge loss! We are so happy for him as he enters into eternity to be with His Lord whom he loved and served!
