He was the husband of Anastasia (Siopes) Gelarderes, who died Feb. 11, 1997.
He was born in Lowell, March 22, 1918, son of the late Markos and the late Angelike (Chirpas) Gelarderes. He was educated in the local schools, attending the Greek Parochial School, and graduated from Lowell High School.
Mr. Gelarderes was a disabled veteran as a result of his service with the Navy during World War II aboard the battleship, USS Iowa.
After his honorable discharge, he returned to the Lowell area, making his home in Tewksbury for more than 40 years before residing in Lowell.
Mr. Gelarderes worked at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, in various positions throughout his 40 years service, retiring as an attendant.
He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by two children, Nicholas P. Gelarderes and his wife, Elizabeth, of Raymond, N.H., and George Gelarderes of Lowell; 11 grandchildren, Carol Jean Murphy, Demetria Murphy, Lisa (Grenon) Seely, Stephanie Gelarderes, Christina Sideri, Mark Gelarderes, Maryanne Wilson, Anastasia Denis, Suzanne Gelarderes, Irene Gelarderes, and Peter Gelarderes; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members including Dawn Griffin and Krystal Leigh Brown.
